My clinic launched in January 2021 in the Harvey Suite at the excellent Lido Medical Centre. I have very close links with all local Consultants,

- CLINIC TEMPORARILY CLOSED -
As a few of you already know I was finally forced to stop working last week having pushed on through many months of excruciating leg pain caused by the pesky disc prolapse(causing L5 nerve root compression) shown below on my MRI scan. I’ve had intermittent episodes of back pain for 3 years, but this year the leg pain reappeared with a vengeance and it has been a rollercoaster of physio/osteo, sports massage, Pilates, drugs, epidurals, facet injections, root block - unfortunately to no avail. All the more challenging mentally and physically with trying to be a good mum to our 4 lovely children/maintaining home life, running my little business, and having my parents(our back-up/helpers!) across the water.
So yesterday I had a microdiscectomy which was a big, but ultimately very necessary decision…so far, so good. Very early days. No leg pain, but predictably a VERY sore back as a large hole was made in my vertebra and a big piece of disc chopped out(technical term!).
I’ll be off work for a couple of months whilst I put myself back together properly.
Thankyou for the lovely messages from those who knew what was going on! They have cheered me up when I needed it.
Keep lifting those weights, no matter what age you are 💪🦵
Amazing!! That’s all I can say! 😅🏴⚽️
Congratulations to the Lionesses.
You are all legends and you have made history.
We are so proud of you all.
Thanks for bringing it home.
IT CAME HOME!!!!
Love Pilates! ❤️❤️❤️
Is Pilates as Good as Everyone Says? The strength and flexibility workout is having a moment. What can — and can’t — it do for us?

Lucky me…look at this display of loveliness received this morning from one of my patients! Very grateful for such kindness 😀
An interesting watch…particularly the part about theragun. I have one in clinic, and have had some great results with it alongside other treatment/exercise modalities. Let me know if you’d like to try it!
Great option for all the parents out there with little ones, especially with so few gym crèche options here. Get those endorphins flowing!

A must watch! 9pm this evening Channel 4…Worth finding
/watching the first part ‘Sex Myths & the Menopause’ on All4 catchup before watching tonight’s follow up. I promise you it’s a game changer!
It is estimated that 40% of adult women in the UK don’t get enough exercise, putting them at risk of a raft of health problems including type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
This figure is probably higher for menopausal women, non-binary and trans people and it is completely understandable as energy, motivation and mood can be at an all-time low during this time.
However, the benefits of regular exercise that raises your heart-rate and moves and impacts on your joints are too important to ignore.
In honour of , we've summarised 5 benefits of exercise in this image. Discover more:
1. It improves your bone health – bones get stronger as you use them and give them work to do.
2. It maintains muscle mass – you lose muscle mass as you get older and regular exercise can slow this down, lowering your risk of falls and fractures.
3. It helps heart health – going through the menopause puts you at
greater risk of diseases of the heart and blood vessels if you do not take HRT. Regular exercise helps to maintain healthy cholesterol and reduce the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.
4. It helps your mood – regular exercise can really help how you’re feeling, lift your mood, help you de-stress and give you more energy and motivation.
5. It helps you stay a healthy weight – falling levels of estrogen can lead to greater fat distribution around your middle (which in turn raises risks of heart disease, diabetes and cancer) and some menopausal women find their weight creeps up – perhaps
because they’re doing less exercise due to their achy joints, or they’re drinking more alcohol to help unwind or get off to sleep.

Heading off to the slopes for half term? This is well worth a read - written by a Morzine based physio married to a ski instructor…lots of insight into safety awareness(or unfortunately lack of) amongst many skiers and boarders.
Are you out of control? Avoid Collisions when skiing and snowboarding. – Alpine Lifestyle & Performance Collisions on the pistes are usually avoidable. This blog details things to be aware of to help reduce the risk of collisions when skiing or boarding.
So happy to read this! Always love to hear how my patients are getting on. Thanks Barry!

Blue Monday is thought to be the most depressing day of the year. Although this is not backed by science, I do want to use today’s post to discuss mental health and the perimenopause and menopause.
Feeling down, sad, and upset can be very common symptoms of the menopause and perimenopause. Other psychological symptoms include feelings of low self-esteem, having reduced motivation or interest in things, anxiety and panic attacks, irritability, and mood swings. It is clear to see why these feelings could be mistaken for depression and perhaps, therefore, understandable why a doctor might prescribe antidepressants.
In the same way that women experience premenstrual syndrome or postnatal depression, significant shifts in your hormone levels, particularly estrogen, can cause marked changes to how you feel. Some studies have shown it is the reduction in estrogen that leads to a lowering of mood, other studies have shown it is the fluctuations in hormone levels that cause the problem.
Estrogen helps regulate several hormones, which may have mood boosting properties for example serotonin, norepinephrine and dopamine. Estrogen also helps to support the sharpness of your thinking skills and when levels reduce, it can lead to forgetfulness or brain fog – which can in turn lower your mood.
Testosterone is another important hormone produced by the ovaries and it can also have important effects on our brains.
Some pre-existing conditions may put women at greater risk of developing mood changes during the menopause, these include a history of premenstrual syndrome or postnatal depression, high levels of stress, and poor physical health.
You can learn more about mental health and the perimenopause and menopause, including treatment options in our factsheet, Antidepressants and the Menopause at https://bit.ly/Antidepressants-FS
