'Hi my name is Russel. I am 25 years old and I come from Zimbabwe.
This is my first time going outside of my comfort zone away from home. Joining the ship can be a long process but I had the support of my family and friends which was a big factor in me being here! I get to interact with different people from all different cultures which has always been a dream of mine.
The ship has helped me to grow as a person. I can notice a difference in myself even from a month ago. Here on Logos Hope with our crew's diversity, there is a big opportunity to grow and learn from each other!
My job is to clean all public spaces here on board and fold the laundry. It has taught me to be more humble in my life and work not only for me but also for others!

Firefighting π₯
Logos Hope crewmembers have regular drills and training. Most recently, our new crewmembers were required to experience extinguishing a real, but supervised, fire.
We prioritize safety on board, and as part of the training, everyone will have the chance to use a fire blanket, as well as a foam and water extinguisher, to help ensure each person is better equipped with the necessary skills for life on board a ship.
Lifeboat drill! β
We regularly lower our lifeboats for training purposes. It give us the chance to learn and grow in our roles and life long lessons!
One lifeboat team contains 6 trained crewmembers, including an experienced officer.
Come on board and learn new skills for life with us! π³οΈ
Meet the Crew
Mimi Santos from Brazil, joined Logos Hope last year in September. Now she is a vital part of our floating family and crew and works in our bookfair. π³οΈ
"I heard about the ship 6 years ago but didn't really think about joining the volunteer program. As time went on, I had the feeling that maybe it could be something for myself. Once I joined last September and I saw the ship sharing so much hope to all the countries it visited, I felt at peace with my decision. After being here, I can say I love it on board Logos Hope and I'm excited to sail with the ship for another year!" β
Welcoming new crew!
We are excited to welcome our new crew, who will be joining us for the next one or two years. They will have the opportunity to grow and learn and travel the world, meeting and serving thousands of visitors every day.
Maybe one day, we'll even see you on board! β
"Hi, I am Emily Irvine. I was born in the UK, 26 years ago. Since then I have become a primary school teacher. Last year in September, I have had the privilege to be a teacher on board Logos Hope.
I really value the experience of teaching on board Logos Hope, where we can individualize our teaching in small classes and create a safe space for the children. We are able to use the local environments to enhance our learning as we travel from port to port and create a unique school experience."
Tell us what your chosen role would be on board the ship in the comments below!
Deck Crew Training
People come and go in our departments, so it helps to hold regular trainings for our crewmembers. As we sail from port to port it can be challenging at times. That's why it's important to be prepared. We learn lots of skills which are vital to know for life at sea. β
Our training here in Kenya has been a fantastic experience and allows us to learn and grow too, as we share knowledge, help and hope.
