Voor het vierde jaar op rij organiseert het Imagine Fantastic Film Festival het programma Imagine Fantastic Talents, een programma dat talent stimuleert bij het maken van hun eerste of tweede korte Nederlandse genrefilm of webserie.

Het programma vindt plaats van 29 t/m 31 oktober 2024 tijdens het Imagine Fantastic Film Festival in LAB111 in Amsterdam.

A young Congolese man faces suspicion and superstition upon returning to his homeland.

Hip-hop musician and visual artist Baloji manages to paint a nuanced picture of the clash of cultures and the coercive power of family ties in his poetic and aptly crafted debut film. The film casts a critical eye on beliefs in witches and demons, but also shows an understanding of the ties to ancestors that keep family traditions alive. In addition to the family members, Baloji - himself born in Congo and now living in Brussels - performs a series of characters who are each, in their own way, victims of exclusion. Energetic and dynamic magical realism in which there is no escape from the ghosts of the past.

Een jonge Congolese man wordt bij terugkeer naar zijn geboorteland geconfronteerd met argwaan en bijgeloof.

Hip-hop muzikant en beeldend kunstenaar Baloji weet in zijn poëtische en trefzekere debuutfilm een genuanceerd beeld te geven van de botsing tussen culturen en de dwingende kracht van familiebanden. De film werpt een kritische blik op het geloof in heksen en demonen, maar toont ook begrip voor de band met de voorouders die de familietradities in stand houdt. Naast de familieleden voert Baloji – zelf geboren in Congo en nu wonend in Brussel – een reeks personages op die elk op hun eigen manier het slachtoffer van uitsluiting zijn. Energiek en dynamisch magisch realisme waarin geen ontkomen is aan de geesten van het verleden.

As he is dealing with his trauma, he recognizes one of his attackers at a gay sauna he frequents. Now, without the make-up and wig, he is able to approach his attacker incognito.
