NOW ON VIEW: Pollinators, an exhibition with Shaw.Art & Studio Roof, showcasing beautiful works of insects that play a crucial role in facilitating the reproduction of flowering plants through pollination. In tandem with this exhibition, we will be organizing a number of educational workshops and events where experts in the field will teach us more on the subject and how to tackle the decline of these vital insects.

We will display impressive, large scale photo prints of butterflies and beetles by artists Monique and Patrick Shaw. The mother and son duo specialize in a laborious macrophotography technique called focus stacking, where many images are painstakingly combined to create extremely sharp images.

Juxtaposed with these prints, we will present colorful, handcrafted paper art insects made from recycled paper, designed and produced by Studio ROOF, a Dutch design studio based in Amsterdam.

Join us for the exhibition opening on the 10th of May 2024.

‘Pollinators’ will be on view from 2nd of May
until 9th of June.

In line with our educational program, we will be organizing two urban expeditions led by evolutionary biologist from . This educational experience will immerse you in the hidden ecosystem within the city, deepening your appreciation for the intricate biodiversity which has adapted alongside us.

Photos from Cloud's post 29/04/2024

We’d like to invite you to the highlight of our upcoming exhibition ‘Pollinators’: an exclusive dinner experience set amidst the backdrop of the gallery, devoted to the fascinating world of pollinators. Merging the worlds of art, science and cuisine, this evening is rich with knowledge about the insects and their entanglement with our world.

You are welcome to engage in insightful conversations with fellow guests and experts from the field, sharing ideas and experiences across the table as you enjoy a vegan three-course dinner served by the chefs from Kaati Kookt. Every bite is a celebration of plants and foods that owe their existence to the work of pollinators.

The chefs Zoë Jungmann and Björn Weesjes are as passionate about sustainability as they are about flavor. Each dish is skillfully crafted to not only nourish the soul, but also your sense of appreciation for the insect world and its impact on our agricultural system.

Before the culinary journey begins, deepen your understanding with an introductory lecture held by Menno Schilthuizen, evolutionary biologist, ecologist, and scientist at Naturalis Biodiversity Center in Leiden. Learn about different pollinator species, the challenges they face in today’s world, and the crucial role they play in sustaining our planet’s biodiversity.

Carefully curated drinks, poured by d’Sjoemmelier will complement the flavors of the evening. Your welcome drink is included in the entrance price, more can be purchased by the glass. There are enough (non-) alcoholic options. Still and sparkling water is included.

Know that your participation supports the cause dear to our hearts. All profits from this evening will be donated to the Bee Foundation. By supporting their mission to strengthen the bond between humans and nature, you’re contributing to the creation and management of bee oases for wild bees, bumblebees and butterflies.

Be part of this one of a kind dinner experience, alongside many walks of life over the shared mission to bridge the gap between nature and humans.

Modern Kintsugi 金継ぎ Workshop by Yuki Tessler .net_

Wednesday 7 February: 17:30 - 20:30

Embracing Imperfections:

Join us on a creative journey where tradition meets artistic expression, and participants can delve into this traditional Japanese restoration technique.

Kintsugi is a traditional Japanese restoration technique. It involves repairing broken bowls with Urushi (Japanese Lacquer), then painting them with gold, silver and vermilion.

The concept is the acceptance of scars as history and the creation of new balance or new life. Kintsugi is a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections. The philosophy of Kintsugi implies that we can become stronger and more beautiful in the process, even after setbacks in our life.

“Repairing pottery with a contemporary twist”

For a modern method, we utilise two component epoxy glue to carefully piece together the broken pottery. Following this, we apply a coat of SHIN Urushi, a golden paint, and finish it off with a sprinkling of exquisite brass powder.

Please note that although the modern kintsugi method can create stunningly restored pottery, it is not suitable for use with food and drinks due to the use of artificial glue. The authentic method, on the other hand, is safe for use with food and drinks.

• Please bring your own broken pottery for attending the workshops. If you have new pottery, then please do not try to break it yourself; bring it unbroken.
