Be aware that most offers via dm's and comments to a request for Housing on Facebook will be fraudulent / advance fee scams.
Never send a copy of your ID/passport or other privacy sensitive documents to a landlord electronically or pay cash or by bank in advance or sign anything without seeing the property in person first.
If the person that is offering the property is currently not residing in The Netherlands and can't handle their affairs in person or is trying to come up with excuses why they can't video chat or meet you in person or is pushing you hard to hurry up with a decision run for the hills because it's most likely a nasty scam.
If someone tries to have you chat to a so called landlord via email, telegram or Whatsapp it's most likely a scam. Don't trust non +31 numbers be careful with +316 mobile numbers anonymous prepaid cards are known to be in use by scammers.
Don't trust new facebook accounts or accounts that just had their only profile picture changed recently.
Also old accounts that have not been active lately and suddenly became active in real estate 'business' are most likely hacked by scammers.
Don't trust accounts to claim to be real estate agents without a link to a .nl business website in their profile they are most likely run by scammers.
Too good to be true offers are just that this is The Netherlands you are going to pay a ridiculously high market price especially in a big city plus energy costs. Anything below market price is most likely a scam.
Note for landlords or people renting out a room:
If a potential renter or housemate asks you to send them a copy of your ID/passport to prove you are who you say you are it's likely a scammer that wants to steal your identity to scam others. Simply put nobody should send copies of their ID's to anyone period.
