FIBROMYALGIA syndrome affects the muscles and soft tissue.
Symptoms include chronic muscle pain, fatigue, sleep problems, and painful tender points or trigger points, which can be relieved through medications, lifestyle changes and stress management.
Possible causes:
1. Fibromyalgia is far more common in women than in men. Studies show that women have approximately seven times less serotonin in the brain.
2. Stress or poor physical conditioning are factors in the cause of fibromyalgia.
3. Muscle "microtrauma" (very slight damage) leads to an ongoing cycle of pain and fatigue.
4. Disordered sleep might lead to lower levels of serotonin, which results in increased pain sensitivity.
If you experience chronic pain or the other symptoms mentioned; and fail to know the cause, please make an appointment today!
Though the people of bordering towns with India are said to be more susceptible to contracting the disease, SWINE FLU cases have now been reported in the capital too.
These simple yet effective measures help prevent swine flu (H1N1 flu) and limit its spread:
1. Stay home if you're sick. If you do have swine flu, you can communicate it to others (friends/ family near you may get infected) starting about 24 hours before you develop symptoms and ending about seven days later.
2. Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. Use soap and water, or if they're unavailable, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer. Flu viruses can survive for two hours or longer on surfaces, such as doorknobs and counter tops.
3. Contain your coughs and sneezes. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. To avoid contaminating your hands, cough or sneeze into a tissue or the inner crook of your elbow.
4. Avoid contact. Stay away from crowds if possible, especially if you're at high risk of complications from the flu — for example, you're younger than 5 or you're 65 or older, you're pregnant, or you have a chronic medical condition.
Ladies, TIRED AND EMBARRASSED OF EXCESSIVE FACIAL HAIR?
Vayodha Hospital Derma and Laser clinic provides all cosmetic skin care including hair reduction using intense pulse light.
1. How does light assisted hair removal work?
Light is selectively absorbed by melanin, the pigment in the hair follicle. The light energy heats the pigment and effectively destroys the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding cells.
2. How is treatment carried out?
The laser or Intense Pulsed Light is placed on the skin and a short pulse of light is released, which targets many follicles simultaneously. The applicator is then moved to the neighboring area of skin and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.
3. How does the treatment feel?
Treatment sensation varies but is often described as “a flick of an elastic band”. Typically no anesthesia is required and most clients describe the discomfort as moderate and tolerable.
4. What will I see after the treatment?
The hair follicles are damaged by heat but the hairs remain in the follicles. The dead hairs shed after 1 – 3 weeks as the epidermis renews. The skin may be red immediately after treatment and the hair follicles may be swollen and bumpy but this usually subsides within a few hours.
5. How many treatments are necessary?
Only hair that is actively growing is affected, therefore multiple treatments are needed. Treatment is conducted every 4 - 8 weeks, depending on the area treated, until a satisfactory result is seen. The required number of treatments varies, but typically 6 or more treatments are needed for optimum results.

Did you know, CHARLEY HORSE is the common name for a muscle spasm. Muscle spasms can occur in any muscle in the body, but often happen in the leg. When a muscle is in spasm, it contracts without your control and does not relax.
CAUSES:
Muscle spasms often occur when a muscle is overused or injured. Things that might bring on a muscle spasm include:
-Exercising when you have not had enough fluids (you're dehydrated).
-Having low levels of minerals such as potassium or calcium.
-When nerve that connects to a muscle is irritated. Eg: herniated disk irritates the spinal nerves and causes pain and spasm in the back muscles.
Spasms in the calf often occur while kicking during swimming. They can also happen at night when you are in bed.
Upper leg spasms are more common with running or jumping activities.
