"Tick-borne Virus"

A new infectious disease caused by a tick-borne virus has killed seven people and infected 60 others in China, warning about the possibility of its human-to-human transmission.

A woman from Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu, who suffered from the virus showed onset of symptoms such as fever, coughing. Doctors found a decline of leukocyte, blood platelet inside of her body. After a month of treatment, she was discharged from the hospital.

SFTS Virus is not a new virus. China has isolated pathogen of the virus in 2011, and it belongs to the Bunyavirus category.

Virologists believe that the infection may have been passed on to humans by ticks and that the virus can be transmitted between humans, it said.Also the possibility of human-to-human transmission could not be excluded; patients can pass the virus to others via blood or mucous.

Doctors warned that tick bite is the major transmission route, as long as people remain cautious, there’s no need to over panic over such virus contagion, it said.

According to WHO country profile 2018, NCDs are estimated to account for 66% of all deaths in Nepal. Since the outbreak of Covid-19, it has been chaotic for everyone around the globe, the current COVID-19 has been a test for countries, health systems, and those delivering health services at the front line. In the presence of new health threats like COVID-19, it has become even more critical to protect those most vulnerable and ensure continuity of care of those grappling with ongoing epidemics like tuberculosis (TB). The COVID pandemic has currently overtaken every other health issue throughout the world. There are numerous ways in which this will impact existing public health issues. So this workshop has been created to help youth link tuberculosis and COVID-19 so that they can learn how to tackle with the current situation and help people at major risk; especially those affected by TB.
Tuberculosis remains a global health emergency and needs our attention more than ever, given that significant resources are now being diverted to COVID-19 management. Knowing the similarities and differences between TB and COVID-19 can help in stabilizing the current situation. Moreover, critically analysing the current situation and assumed situation of TB after the pandemic situation might be beneficial in many ways. This 5 days workshop will provide a platform for youths to link TB and COVID-19 in all aspects. Also, it will give an opportunity to youth to come forward, develop their critical thinking, in depth research and presentation skills.

Day 1: Orientation Day
Day 2: Presentations on similarities and differences between TB and COVID-19
Day 3: SWOT Analysis (for participants outside Youth for TB Free Gandaki)
Day 4: SWOT Analysis (for participants from Youth for TB Free Gandaki)
Day 5: Felicitation Day

Ground Rules of the workshop:
1. Microphone should to be kept off when not speaking.
2. Video feature should be on during the sessions as far as possible; however, it can be kept off considering the internet problems.
3. Either Nepali or English language can be used to present the opinions.
4. While presenting the similarities and differences between TB and COVID-19, presenters will be given time limit in which they are expected to complete. Their microphone will be compliantly be turned off by the moderator when the presenter exceeds the time. However, there are no time-limits in SWOT Analysis session.
5. Participant must not use any slangs during the workshop, if found, the observer has the full right to interrupt and warn the participant. In case of multiple use of slangs (i.e. more than once) the observer can remove the participant from the session.
6. Participants are expected for active participation and healthy discussions, for which they will be evaluated.
7. Certificates will be given to the participants who have attended the workshop completely. However, the genuine reasons of absence are considered.
8. Participants must respect opinions of each other.
9. Participants are expected to abide by a healthy competition. Winners will be chosen by the evaluation team.
