Hello to all our families
I hope you are all safe and well. Scott Point School has been assessed earlier today and has sustained very little wind and rain damage, so will be open for instruction from Wednesday the 15th of February.
While some schools in our wider West Auckland region will remain closed as they have no power, major damage to their buildings or are unable to have adequate staff at school to keep everyone safe, we have been fortunate that we have only had to close for two days. Although there may be some rain and wind tomorrow, we can at least return to school unless we are at short notice directed to close. At this stage I am hoping this will not be the case and we will see you all tomorrow.
If you intend to keep your child/ren at home, please let us know via the Hero Ap.
Pam, the Board and the staff
Hello again SPS families,
I hope everyone is safe and well and you have not faced too much weather damage.
Following the Auckland Emergency Management report regarding Cyclone Gabrielle and the yet to be expected approaching rainfall and winds still to hit Auckland, Scott Point School will remain closed for Tuesday the 14th of February.
The latest information from Auckland Emergency Management only reinforces the board’s decision to close. They state that the worst is yet to come, with extreme wind and rain expected late Monday and early Tuesday. They have given clear instructions to stay off the roads, take shelter, and to be prepared for power outages and weather damage to infrastructure. Families should continue to monitor and follow all advice from Auckland Emergency Management.
It has been a challenging decision to make, and we understand how disruptive it may be for you. It is never easy to predict the safety of our community, staff, and students. Safety is the most important consideration for the school.
We have been closely monitoring this event and the likely impact it will have on our learning community. Reviewing information from Auckland Emergency Management, Met Service, Auckland Principals Association, and discussions with our Kahui Ako local Principals has helped make this decision.
We wish everyone in our community a safe few days and you will hear from us again tomorrow.
Pam, the Board and the Staff at SPS
To all our SPS families
As Auckland is still in a state of emergency and Cyclone Gabrielle is approaching New Zealand causing a significant weather event with extremely strong winds, heavy rain, and large swells resulting in Met Service Red Warnings, the Ministry of Education and Auckland Primary Principals Association have strongly recommended that for health and safety reasons and the possible impact of Cyclone Gabrielle, that schools in Auckland should be closed for Monday and Tuesday.
Scott Point Board of Trustees will at this stage close the school for Monday the 13th of February 2023 and will confirm by Monday 4pm if there is a need for the school to continue to be closed for Tuesday.
While the school is actively monitoring this event closely and taking into account all advice from Auckland Emergency Management the Board believes it has the safety of students and staff at the forefront of all decisions and that is why closing the school on Monday the 13th although a difficult decision, it is one that had to be made.
This closure takes into consideration:
- The advice that all non-essential travel should be avoided
- Power outages or water supply may be
- This weather event will involve high winds which adds another key risk factor for the safety of staff and students.
- This decision is made with the safety of staff and students in mind and not taken likely.
- Families should continue to monitor and follow all advice from Auckland Emergency Management
- There will be no online teaching and learning given the nature of the closure
- Where possible regular updates will be sent from the school
Please stay safe and hopefully, this will pass and we will all be back at school on Tuesday.
Pam King & Scott Point School Board and Staff

Hi everyone,
I am just letting you know that we do have BYOD available at our school for years 4 -8. We only use Apple devices and the reasons for us doing this are outlined in the school website link below.
Personal devices are not compulsory but they can make your child's ability to manage their work easier as they are not having to share with their classmates.
Here is the link to our school website that contains more information about our program.
https://www.scottpointschool.nz/about-3
I have also included this link to a purchasing portal that New Era has set up for us where you can purchase devices and any accessories you might also want.

You are also welcome to shop around and look at other retailers as well.
