Moving from our U12s last week to our Master's this week, we are one busy club! The NZ Open Masters Championship is this weekend in Hawke's Bay, the Barbarians had two games to start off the tournament today - a tough start with a loss to the Patu Pirates but, after a year of not playing with each other, they found their feet and came away with a win against the hosts.

The lads will be getting plenty of sleep tonight with a big day tomorrow, taking on Tauranga and Marist.

Good Luck The Barbarians!!!

Great start to the tournament for the under 18’s. They had the priveledge of wearing our new togs. Girls had a close first game losing 8-5 to NHWP black. The Southern boys (Otago/Southland combined) had a loss against Waikato, working strongly on playing as a team for the first time. The boys are wearing the new Otago togs and wearing Southland tops.

Photos from Otago Water Polo's post 27/09/2023

U16's, WOW what a tournament!!!!

After topping their pool our U16 boys went on to win their quarter final against Canterbury Black before going down to Sea Wolf White in a hard fought battle in the semis. The lads regrouped and brought everything they had to the play off for third place defeating Marist White in an epic game and walking away with the Bronze Medal.

Our U16 girls finished the tournament with come close games against North Harbour Blue and Atlantis Navy and left nothing in the pool. For many of these young ladies this is their first Nationals and they'll be back in this grade in 2024. We can't wait to see how they go.

Thanks to our coaches Nat and Flynn for all your time and effort in getting us to Nationals, to our managers and parent helpers, we couldn't have done it without you and for all the supporters and cheer squads, we dragged a few in from around NZ. Thanks NZWP we had a blast!!!

Well what a morning. Both teams faced off against our fellow South Islanders - Canterbury.

Our U16 girls started off the day with a game against Canterbury Black. Although they didn't quite manage the win they excelled, giving it all and almost eqaulling their highest goal count of the tournament.

The boys then hit the quarter finals also up against Canterbury Black. The battle was fierce but they came away from the game with a 3:1 win. They hit the pool at 7pm tonight for the semi final against Sea Wolf White.

GO OTAGO!!!!!

Our U16 Teams having been playing their hearts out on Day 2 of Div 2 Nationals in Auckland!!!
The boys finished day 1 on a roll with a 14:3 win against North Harbour to back it up yesterday with 10:0 win against Mountfort Toki. This takes them through at the top of Pool D to compete in the quarter finals today.
Our girls had a couple of fantastic games since our last post. Despite just going down to Marist Blue at the end of Day 1 and Waitakere yesterday they continue to play like champions and never give up.
Great work U16s, we can't wait to see how you go today!!!

Croissants - the U14 teams are selling bags of frozen croissants. 20 in a bag for $25. They will be ready in mid-October.

This fundraiser is dramatically reducing the cost of the trip for each child to get to Tauranga for Nationals.

Please comment below if you are keen to eat some yummy croissants and we will contact you

What an awesome start for our U16 teams competing in NZWP Div2 Nationals in Auckland.
Our girls started the tournament off with a pearler of a game against North Harbour White coming away with an 8:8 draw. Then the very next game our Boys backed it up with a brilliant win 9:7 over Marist White. We couldn't be more proud of them.

Stay tuned as both teams are back in the pool this evening.

SUNDAY LEAGUE - WEEK 9 - FINAL WEEK

We have come to the final week of our Sunday League. There has been a very mixed bag of results with all teams winning a few games. For the Juniors, statistically, the Octopi are the team to beat. However, this Sunday the winner takes all. Everybody is playing everybody for the last time after which we will crown a Junior winner for the 2023 season.

For the Seniors, another very mixed bag of results over the season. Quite a few forfeits with teams having to mix up a lot. However, we have had a lot of fun playing the league. Statistically, the best results have come from the Orcas closely followed by the Sharks, but it has been very close.
For the last games this term we will start with a U14 girls vs U16 girls rematch. So Orcas vs Sharks for top spot, and Penguins vs Dolphins for 3rd. Players from Seals are encouraged to come and make up the numbers and join these teams to get some game time as well.

Good luck to all the teams competing at Splash Palace tomorrow. Thanks for organising Southland Water Polo. Have a blast!!!

Due to the unexpected closure of the old dive well at Moana Pool this week our training times for the rest of Term 3 have had to change slightly as all pool users get reshuffled. Wednesday morning trainings have been cancelled and a reduction to only half the pool on Thursday afternoons means we have split the U12 and U14 age groups up and moved the training times for all age groups to suit.
Thanks for your understanding
