Have Your Say on Institutional Neutrality – In-Person Submissions
We’d love to hear your thoughts on the University’s stance on institutional neutrality – the idea that universities should stay neutral on political issues that don't directly affect their operations and instead these discussions be left for students and academics to have.
A working group has been set up to look into this, covering everything from the University's current approach to legal obligations and how other universities handle this topic. The group includes President Keegan Wells as a student representative alongside Emeritus Professor James Maclaurin (convenor), Professor Tamlin Conner, Professor Andrew Geddis, Metiria Turei, Professor Patrick Vakaoti. Also, the working group has taken on a couple of advisors - Fairleigh Gilmour and Miranda Johnson.
We're meeting on Monday, 4 November, from 9 am to 1 pm in the Leith Room, downstairs at the Staff Club. Submissions will be kept confidential and reported in summary only. To ensure everyone gets a chance, submissions will be limited to 15 minutes per person or group (up to 3 people). If you’d like to book a time, just follow this link: https://doodle.com/meeting/participate/id/az9O007e
Can’t make it? No problem – feel free to reach out to the working group convenor, James Maclaurin, at [email protected].
