My eldest celebrated his fifth birthday this month. Turns out that’s a surprisingly emotional milestone.

It’s had me reflecting on the last five years and boy they’ve been pretty big. I have been asking myself how do parenthood and business ownership hold hands? Can they really waltz together? I’m sure there are many parents out there asking themselves similar questions.

The truth is with little ones it’s a case of survival. I remember week two of our first lockdown back in 2020 … I had a 6 month old at home, I was 8 weeks pregnant and filming online Yoga classes with a vomit break, into a keep cup. I edited that part out and later uploaded the recording to our virtual studio.

By the time Omicron hit in 2021 I had two kids under 18 months and was running on leftover pureed veggies and too many coffees to name. I would get up at 5am in the morning after a night of breastfeeding to teach early morning classes (also not recommended).
Was it a bit of a joke? Well I can laugh at it now.

Everyone else sees the outside. What people don’t see is what is required to just show up, particularly as a Mum, in those early days. The many grandparents, babysitters and daycare hours. The basket load of guilt at the bottom of the stairs because you’re holding space for others instead of holding your infant children.

My son said to me at bedtime on Tuesday when I got home from work at 9pm “Mum why were you working in the dark? Weren’t people falling asleep?”
I said: “Yes honey, only we call it Savasana”
Then he said: “Wow that’s cool you teach people to sleep Mum because Daddys work on computers.”

He reminded me that my jobs pretty cool. And Im glad I hung in there when my eyes needed to be held open with pegs.

This being human is not easy and it’s my mission to fully acknowledge that and talk about how those challenges help all of us to mine gold. As a custodian of Reva I feel proud of all her people and the way this community supports each other through all their seasons and their own versions of hard. Together we can face those experiences & come through the other side braver more authentic versions of ourselves.

I see you swimming in it. Keep going x

Reflections after another beautiful weekend of Teacher Training .co.nz ♥️

REVA is a business. But she’s also not a business at all. We are a heart centered community, a living breathing entity that is formed by people, many many beautiful souls. Those people have fascinating stories, life experiences, vast wisdom and are from a hugely diverse range of backgrounds, ages and skills. They are students and they are teachers. Some of our students have also become our greatest teachers. And they come together to co-create a wide reaching web of curious human beings.

This is our third cohort of teacher trainees and while Robbie, Erica and I were facilitating this weekend our past graduates were holding space in the Studio. One of our very first students almost a decade ago, is now even helping us at the helm keeping REVA in motion - thank you Natasha Mason Somatic Space Holder 😘

I’m the first to admit I have confused business coaches, solicitors and accountants with my approach to running a ‘business’ because our model doesn’t fit a traditional commercial framework. Quite frankly nor do my values. The language I use to describe REVA’s nature doesn’t make sense, the modes of forecasting (namely faith) are immeasurable, I don’t advertise and I believe our people find us.

My focus is always the people and where our focus goes energy flows. It’s not metrics, it’s not KPI’s or spreadsheets. Instead it’s impact. It is the creation of a safe space for sharing, learning from each other and mutual support.

I didn’t do a business degree. I sat down and found a spiritual practice that provides me with a compass for how I want to approach life and my life is my business. It is also Yoga.

Here we are 8 years in and I’m proud that REVA has grown more since my babies were born than before they arrived. Becoming a Mother helped me take my hands off the wheel and in my letting go created an opportunity for support to flow in at a level I had never dreamed of. I am deeply grateful to all the people that keep her moving forward in new and wonderful ways.

The universe provides quite profoundly when you place yourself right at the edge of comfort and trust that love will prevail♥️

Kings Birthday Weekend 🎈

We are so fortunate to have an incredible team of teachers who support each other and tag in and out as they are needed, whether that is while we have members of the crew away adventuring or off sick. All of our teachers have been particularly supportive as of late with what has been a big month of covers and subs to keep the studio running smoothly.

We don’t close often, all year round the Studio is open, that said our Team have been working tirelessly lately so this weekend we have decided that we are all putting our feet up and taking a break to rest, relax and reconnect with loved ones.

If you have an unlimited membership with us a reminder you have complimentary access to the Online Studio and you can practice via the REVA app or our website ✌️

We are grateful for you all and appreciate your understanding and support no end.♥️

For Mothers Day ♥️

‘The Things Women Carry’

Across countries, age, race, religion
Women are carrying things
So very many,
So very many things.

Things that are theirs
Along with the gaze of others.
Mothers holding sons and daughters,
Cradling them still when they too become Fathers and Mothers.

The mental load of households
The birthdays, shopping and calendars
The dog walks, the cats vaccinations
The bake sales and fundraisers.

Pick ups, drop offs
and all the bags.
So very many
so very many bags.

Women carrying the extra weight
that comes with the pressure to be thin
and fit into the jeans
you can't even eat a sandwich in.

Meanwhile they make meals filled with love,
Often served cold and eaten standing,
or in cars driven
with a full wardrobe in waiting.

Women creating,
labouring and birthing,
The gifts they bear miraculous
and awe inspiring.

Women carrying babies
And the load of children
Sometimes their own
So often someone else's.

Then the elderly
Nursing them as they age
Becoming babies again
Only this time unable to be carried.

And for many the load of childlessness
Unmet dreams, unfulfilled potential and sacrifice
Those who choose that path consciously
frequently misunderstood or at worst ostracised.

Women carrying boulders gracefully upon their heads,
laying the foundations for their family.
Women digging earth and tending crops,
planting nourishment for their whole community.

Their work often unseen, unheard, unvalued
And yet its labour all the same
That work of devotion, love and support
Often done alongside careers just as demanding.

Women bleeding for the next generation
Whilst their womb carries the weight of the last.
Holding space for others when they can barely
hold themselves together from the past.

Women sharing wisdom
learned from the depths of darkness and pain.
Despite that choosing to forgive, stay open
And love all over again.

Women mending; loose buttons
broken hearts, political missteps.
Healing themselves slowly
So they can heal and help those left.

Women losing all sense of self and confidence
On the journey through motherhood
Then refinding joy and meaning
in places they never knew that needed to look.

Women finally saying enough is enough
'My no does not mean yes!'
Asserting themselves with conviction
Even when they are pressed.

Women choosing light after abuse
So they can be torchbearers for others
Speaking truth, being brave, raising children,
Whilst raising themself in full colour.

Women claiming their feminine
in a world that asks them to be more like men.
Flying the flag with other minorites
Because they too know their own oppression.

Women protesting
for access and basic rights
In a time where society is regressing
And they are so done with the fight.

It's a lot to carry
The burdens born in the shadows
And yet when we share the load we realise we can
Offering our stories forth from our marrow.

Not a load ever intended to be born
By one woman alone
Certainly not without her village
On her own, in one home.

The bags are full to overflowing
Bulging at the seams
You can put some down
Carry one at a time if you need.

It's okay if the oranges fall out
and the milk spills on the ground.
It's alright to leave them on the kitchen floor,
upacked, along with your marbles rolling around.

Life is messy and imperfect - It's not as they say
That judgement you feel it's actually your own
The failure you perceive, the criticism you hear
Yes, that's yours too to take home.

You are a woman, I do see you.
With a heart, a mind and soul
You are heard by me and others like you
Your work does hold immense value.

We carry your load next to our own,
We walk every day in your shoes
Yours are just a derivative
of the ones we wear too.

08/05/2024

It’s easy to forget when your life gets heavy.
When there feels to be lots to carry in just two hands.

It’s easy to forget when you’re raising young children and you’re sleep deprived.
When your little ones need you to be Mum before anything else.

It’s easy to forget when you’ve been running the show for so long you don’t know if it’s actually running you.
When the years roll by and you look up and wonder how a decade went by.

It’s easy to forget when the lease goes up and the operating costs grow, the last time you gave yourself a performance review.
When you are continually evolving to keep your offerings fresh and new.

It’s easy to forget when the online merchant fees skim a hefty sum each week.
When you continue to convince yourself those charges are invisible.

It’s easy to forget in and amongst the early starts, the late nights and the covers.
When you actually had a full day off.

It’s easy to forget when you’re a recovering perfectionist who sees every spec of dust.
When your mind struggles to close down the number of open tabs that come with being self employed.

It’s easy to forget when you’re paying provisional tax, gst and acc.
When someone reminds you that’s because you are making money you roll your eyes back in your head.

It’s very, very easy to forget.
When you do forget, you need a practice that will help you remember. And when that practice is your ‘why’, everything makes sense.

Then you remember the power of this practice to change lives.
When even in just one deep breath, in one playlist, one theme, one quote, one touch, one training you see that they remember themselves too.

Sometimes you have to step back from it all and survey from a distance to see the broader impact. It’s easy to get bogged down by the concept of ‘business’ but this isn’t commercial enterprise, this is not commodification, this here is a community of people. It’s actually all love. So there’s nothing to hold because love doesn’t have a container so you can’t nor do you need to try to.

Love is a way of being, your only job - is to embody it.

I remember now and what a gift that is.

You’ll spot a number of covers on the schedule over the next couple of weeks and the beautiful .m.mason is at the helm managing the Studio. If you need anything you can reach Natasha via our REVA app messenger and she’ll also be replying to all your emails sent to [email protected]

So grateful to our whole teaching team for pooling together and keeping the doors open, the music on and the incense lit while I take a holiday. Its been a hot minute since I last had two weeks off, circa maternity leave three and half years ago. Time to rest, reset and get re-inspired on retreat in Bali.

The Universe acts in mysterious and often serendipitous ways. It’ll speak to you through chance happenings, seemingly random encounters or quiet recurrent messaging. And yet its all by design, everything is happening at precisely the right time and place for us to learn the lessons we need, to experience the growth we desire and to align with our highest purpose. When you follow the nudges, the conversations and the signs it’s fascinating where life takes you and it’s fun to explore her meandering path. Almost always less direct but filled with interesting opportunities, beautiful sights and deep connection with people.

So here we are about to embark upon another 6 Month Yoga Teacher Training journey come June and for whatever reason the people taking this journey with us, the land we will take the journey on and the Geodome that will hold the container for us, want this experience to be even more special and intimate.
The magic and energy is palpable already ✨

So if you, like us, are feeling the pull to transform your practice, your personal perspective and your life then maybe just maybe now is the time. Because something tells me 2024 cohort is going to be pretty divine ♥️

Drop us an email at [email protected] if you are interested in being part of the ride x

On Friday it was International Women’s day and I was struggling to find language to express this experience of womanhood. Yesterday I sat down and these ramblings rolled off my pen, for myself, for my daughter and for all women. I hope for her and for you that you know your worth and value simply by being here ♥️

She did, she did, she did
Until she couldn’t anymore.
Tired, broken, empty,
No resources to call upon
For self
Nor anyone.

She gave, she gave, she gave
Under the guise of love.
To be welcomed,
To be worthy,
To be adored,
To be recognised.

And in her giving
Gave away herself.

She said yes, sure, okay.
I can help. I will. I am.
In doing so
She sold her soul
For free.

The cost: her essence
Her life force and vitality.
She was never enough
Not even for herself.
No price, no victory, no accolade
No amount of success
Would fill the growing void.

The more she did
The more she had to do.
The more achieved
The higher the standards rose.

In the running
She simply ran out.

Never pausing to sit
Never sensing her being.
She got lost
In a maze
Of her own making.

Until one day
Life forced her stop.
Took her shoulders,
Tethered her ankles,
Stared her in the eyes.

Life said:
‘You’re dead’

You’ve worked yourself to ground
Your bones are dust
There’s nothing
Left to give.

You cannot serve.
You cannot love.
You can barely walk
Without asking the earth
To swallow you whole.

There’s no choice
This is it.
No more running
No more seeking
Sit down
Look inside.

Do you see
What you’ve been missing?

She closed her eyes
Because she was so tired
Nor could she tolerate the self
She saw in the mirror

Slowly she felt the light
The value that was there
There all along.
That she tried to quantify
But couldn’t.
Tried to measure
But failed.
Tried to show others
But they couldn’t see.

Because it wasn’t theirs to see.
It was only meant for she.

Now she feels it.
Now she knows it.
Now she can sit still
Without losing it.

She won’t give it away
She can’t.
She owns it.
It’s immeasurable
She need not prove it.
Not to anyone.

Because her light
Her value, her worth
Is in her heart
Moving through her being
An intrinsic part of her
Simply because
Of her existence.

There really is no place quite like home ♥️

It’s warm.
It smells like incense.
It’s safe to be fully yourself.

What is it to soften our edges?

This is a conversation we’ve had a few times this week, a recurrent theme brought forward by the collective for experience and exploration. It seems to be something many of us are trying to find more of, after decades of hardening up, guarding up and getting it all done. Yes, all of it.

There’s two sides to each of us;
The doing self and the being self.

The doing self, while needed, can become quite tempestuous. If left unchecked it might mean we pick up the prickly personality or see the spikey self.

Yikes. We all know that person… the bound, coiled up, reactive part of us. It is the ‘doing body’ that has been under tension for so long, that at any moment it could succumb to overload and snap. Like when we stretch a rubber band too far, then it breaks and bites back.

This aspect of our personality arises because of the ego. And if we live in our minds for extended periods it becomes all of who we are. It consumes us. Perpetuating itself through over achievement, petting itself in external validation and propping itself up with yet more doing.

It’s like a centrifuge, each rotation creating even more tightness, angst and anxiety. When we move so quickly there’s the illusion that there is not enough time or worse, the feeling that time must be filled with only worthwhile pursuits. As if being isn’t enough.

The filling never really ends though does it, the hunger pangs never subside, the longings never fully met. Because the reality is we are already enough, there is enough- of everything, for everyone. Our worth need not be proven, shown or shined for all to see. Because our natural state of being is love, compassion and peace. The being self is not seeking or searching, the being self is resting in its own awareness of this moment. It is spacious, patient and easily stretched.

This is who we really are. When we meet this version of self we grow mallow, we breathe deep, we access an endless well of energy, we stay in flow and our edges are soft. Those edges are where we dance with life, offer our kindness to others and feel love reciprocated.

20/02/2024

“Love is what we are born with. Fear is what we learn. The spiritual journey is the unlearning of fear and prejudices and the acceptance of love back into our hearts. Love is the essential reality and our purpose on earth. To be consciously aware of it, to experience love in ourselves and others, is the meaning of life. Meaning does not lie in things. Meaning lies in us.”

~ Marianne Williamson

Feeling this in a big way today.
Maybe it hits for some you too♥️

Holding space.

It’s our vocation and our passion.

There’s something magical about a container with soft edges and yet firm boundaries. Like a home with the fire lit, warm aromas drifting from the oven and the couch, covered in cushions, ready to melt into. When we feel safe in a space we can fully relax, be all of ourselves and ironically- not feel at all contained.

Holding space need not take touch, nor holding hands or words. Often all it takes is the eye contact that says I see you, I hear you, I feel you, because in many ways I am you. And you matter. As does every experience moving through you, so it’s ok to let it move.

When we allow ourselves to show up as we are in all our realness, be it tired, grieving, burnt out, stressed, frustrated or their positive companions, we honour ourselves fully. We don’t create further fatigue by playing pretend.

In your meeting of these parts of self there is compassion for these precise parts in others. Therein lies the healing of the collective. This is why we are here because when we show up for our own process we begin to hold space for our friends, our family, our colleagues and our wider community in their process.

It’s all welcome inside this place, this place is your homecoming.
m.mason ♥️
