Devil's Cut BBQ

Another weekend of big scoring again! Another 3 way tie this time in ribs with perfect scores, which makes life hard when your rib guy can't make the comp. 😂 The team had a good day, (apart for aforementioned ribs) and our scores are creeping up slowly. Thanks to Morgan Brunswick and Mandy for putting on a great comp in a superb location. Wonder what the other campers thought of it all. Mid pack finish with a best of 16th in brisket but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Next comp, Meatstock Hamilton - bring it on.

How good is this! Beautiful day in Taupo. Acacia Bay Camping ground is a stunning spot for 40 odd teams competing this weekend.

So, the final Jack N Smoke has finished in beautiful weather in Napier, ( well hopefully not finished), and we had a great time. Good to see our bbq community mates again after 6 months of cold, depressing winter. A super strong field smoked it up and there was some seriously good scoring with one category having a three- way tie for first place which is amazing! The boys had a good days graft and we were happy with our boxes although the judges didn't agree this year- but that's comp bbq for ya. For the record:

It's a quick turnaround now for Bbq Mania in Taupo which we're super pumped for. We'll have a clean up and try again in 2 weeks. Thanks heaps to Brendon for organizing this event and enjoy your break from running this great event. Also super congrats on your GC! Congrats to all the others that got call outs or walks- well done. So we definitely haven't been resting on our laurels over the winter. The team provided food for a stag do, a 10 year business anniversary as well as feeding hungry firefighters, sim racers and topped off with a pop up yesterday. Learnt a lot about the catering side of things before we now get ready again for the summer competition season. Our first comp will be in Napier in 6 weeks- looking forward to it!

So, even though we are hitting winter, we've been still busy with home cooks and providing bbq for others. The team recently completed some events such as a stag party, a small company lunch and then 60 people last night. Still a few things in the pipeline such as a Hutt Valley based pop-up.

So a great time had by all in Hawkes Bay this weekend at the 2023 Jack n Smoke competition. The weather held out and we managed to get everything packed away before Sunday's rain. The team came away with our best overall finish after 6 comps with a solid 12th overall out of 29 teams. Individual results were:

4th brisket
8th pork
20th ribs
26th chicken

Congrats to Rendered for their (his) GC and the Cook Cartel for RGC. Big thanks to Brendon and his team for a great event. Our team now looks forward to Let the be Meat in Christchurch in November.
