🚨Rachel’s leaving 😥
Seamus here. Some say when you look up awesome in the dictionary, the definition is Rachel Farrington. Admittedly, those people might have difficulties with reading, but I think they may be onto something.
Despite it still being difficult to ignore (and understand) her thick Aussie accent, Rach came over to Aotearoa all the way back in 2017 to work with the Young Marists. This was a large commitment by her, but we’re so glad she made the call.
Both students and staff have been guided, helped, and quite frankly impressed by her over the years. She’s ran along the Whanganui Awa, presented at MYL, and been a familiar face around Te Urewera. But, to focus solely on what Rach has done, without acknowledging the person she is, would only tell a small part of why we're so grateful for her.
It's safe to say that Rach has become a pretty great embodiment of the Marist charism. She is selflessly kind, possesses a sharp sense of humour, is humble and intelligent, and, above all, a bloody good bu**er. She has an innate ability to know what somebody needs, whether that be a yarn or a hug, before the other person realises it themself. When you talk to her, she has a way of making you feel like the most important person in the world. Because of all this, we all feel very blessed to call her our mate.
Publicly farewelling someone that has not only become a part of the Young Marist furniture, but its very foundation, would seem like a difficult task to many. In this case, it’s perhaps one of the easiest things I could do! If you know Rach, you know that there are endlessly great things to say about this wāhine toa. I've never had any hard feelings toward Mark Zuckerberg, but today, he's testing my patience with this word limit.
Basically, we’re going to miss her heaps. Thanks for everything you’ve done and all you’ll continue to do—you’ve set a great precedent for us all to follow. You’ve been our shoulder to lean on and an arm that pushes us to move forward. We love you, Rach 🐐❤️
