𝐎𝐅𝐅 𝐌𝐈𝐂, 𝐎𝐅𝐅 𝐀𝐈𝐑 🎙️❌

On the 21st of September 1972, Ferdinand Marcos Sr. declared Martial Law, and would be marked by the horrors and atrocities that Filipinos had experienced. One of the indications from his dictatorship was how the appearance of truth went off-air in Philippine media for a chilling time.

The media was among its first victims. It was constantly silenced and suppressed during the Martial Law period. Attacks against journalists and media outlets in all forms were becoming commonplace nationwide. Being critical was silenced in favor of whitewashing the crimes under the Marcos Sr. dictatorship with an evident attempt to form a drastic hunger of Filipinos towards the truth.

52 years later on this exact day, UPB On MIC commemorates one of the darkest chapters of our history and the silencing of Philippine media marked by heavy censorship. UPB on MIC also calls on the whole UP community to uphold the truth and its opposition against present and future distortion.
