"Indigenous peoples are essential to promoting food and water security, and enhancing nature’s ability to absorb harmful greenhouse gases. While representing a mere 5% of the global population, they manage approximately half of the world’s land and forests, which are home to a staggering 80% of the globe's biodiversity. Furthermore, between 2001 and 2021, Indigenous peoples’ forests were better net carbon sinks per hectare than most non-Indigenous forests." - Mafalda Duarte,Razan Al Mubarak

What are the calls of Indigenous Peoples for SDG 17?
✅ We recommend for the allocation of adequate funds and resources and engagement with indigenous peoples for participatory planning and to develop specific and targeted measure to ensure that indigenous peoples are not left behind.
✅ The recognition and respect for our right to our land, territories and resources is a pre-requisite in any form of public-private partnership that affects us and effective accountability mechanisms should be put in place.
✅ We call on development actors including states, the private sectors and donors to engage and work with indigenous peoples as agents of change and development actors.
