Sunshine, unity, and growth gracefully defined the vibrant atmosphere on Day 2 of the Youth Volunteer Formation Course, held on January 28, 2024, at the SLU Grounds.

The Youth Volunteer Formation Course (YVFC) is the sequel to the Youth Volunteer Orientation Module (YVOM) held the day before. The day started with the volunteers getting to know each other through team chants and a memory game.

The team also indulged in an activity wherein they were labeled as some of societyโ€™s professions and key people. While this segment the expression of opinions on societal issues, it also taught them a valuable lesson to be volunteers who shall never discriminate based on oneโ€™s state in life.

Furthermore, the volunteers not only got to know each other, but themselves as well, through self-awareness activities. They revealed their first impressions on each other, and shared their thoughts about the impressions imposed on them. The team also reflected on their privileges, disadvantages, and circumstances in life through an immersion into their inner thoughts.

As rapport between the participants was built, the afternoon session started with a modified lunch setup: the participants were blindfolded, and they switched their packed lunches with each other, mildly mirroring the condition of on-ground volunteers who share meals with the people they serve.

Next, the volunteers built their leadership and unity skills through dry and wet activities. The facilitators made them try to form a square from a rope around them while blindfolded and having limited "talking privileges". They also managed to count up to thirty without speaking over each other. The volunteers also successfully turned over a "magic carpet" without pushing any member over the edge. They also attempted to pass members through a "window of life", and reflected on the sacrifices needed in order for people to be saved. Lastly, the wet activities also molded the volunteers' teamwork by having them strategize on how to pass cups and trays of cold water without falling over.

Even as the cold winds of January swept over the grounds, a warmth spread all over the volunteers as teams seamlessly formed, values intricately shaped their collective vision, and together, they embarked on a shared adventure of purpose and connection. It was a day where each moment resonated with the spirit of collaboration, turning SLU Grounds into a canvas of unity and growth.

Saint Louis Universityโ€™s Red Cross Youth Council filled Silang Hall with the spirit of volunteerism as they kickstarted a Health Caravan booth during the University Week from November 27 to November 30.

In partnership with Rotaract Club of Baguio SLU-School of Medicine, the volunteers gave free medicines to Louisians. These helpful medicines will surely strengthen Louisians as they push through the final stretch of the semester.

The volunteers also distributed Membership with Accident Assistance Benefit (MAAB) cards to Red Cross Youth members who registered last October.

To the Volunteers of the World: A Heartfelt Gratitude

In a world often painted with shades of gray, volunteers stand as radiant splashes of color, their tireless efforts painting a vibrant masterpiece of compassion and generosity. Today, the SLU RCY pause to celebrate these selfless individuals, the backbone of our communities, whose unwavering dedication has transformed countless lives.

From the animal shelters where love and care are the only currencies, to the classrooms where education blossoms, to the soup kitchens where warmth and nourishment are shared, volunteers embody the essence of empathy and selflessness. They are the hands that reach out to those in need, the voices that champion change, and the hearts that embrace diversity.

Their impact is not confined to the immediate act of service. They sow seeds of hope, nurture understanding, and spark a ripple effect of kindness that transforms not just individuals, but entire communities. Their contributions are the silent hum that keeps the world turning, the unseen threads that weave the tapestry of compassion.

To the volunteers of the world, we extend our heartfelt gratitude. Your unwavering commitment to making a difference is a testament to the extraordinary power of humanity. You are the driving force behind positive change, the embodiment of the spirit of giving.

Thank you for being the change you wish to see in the world. Your selfless acts of kindness are the beacons that illuminate the path towards a brighter future.

Red Cross Youth Council at Work, Serving the SLU community with one heart!

The SLU Red Cross Youth Council (SLU - RCYC) hosted the annual Red Cross Youth Month Week from October 10-13, 2023, at the Silang Lobby. Taking inspiration from the popular anime series "Cell at Work," this event showcased the council's dedication to serving the SLU community with unwavering commitment.

As a youth-led organization, the SLU-RCYC strives to instill humanitarian values and encourage selfless volunteerism among students. The National Red Cross Youth Month, themed , serves as a platform to commemorate the RCY's impactful initiatives and raise awareness about its wide array of programs and services.

Throughout this year's Red Cross Week, students actively engaged in a range of activities. From the enthusiastic Red Cross Membership and Recruitment, urging students to become members and support the organization's humanitarian endeavors, to the insightful Blood Typing sessions, offering students the opportunity to learn their blood type, there was no shortage of participation. Fun games, complete with adorable prizes and complimentary stickers from the Red Cross family, added an extra layer of enjoyment. Furthermore, the Photo Booth allowed students to capture memorable moments, free of charge, to cherish their involvement in this event.

The resounding success of the SLU Red Cross Youth Month saw a substantial turnout of students, showcasing their enthusiasm for humanitarian causes. This event not only amplified awareness of the RCY and its invaluable work but also welcomed new members into the organization.

To those who joined in this humanitarian cause, exciting prospects await us in this journey with the Red Cross Youth Council! Our commitment to always extend a helping hand continues to shape a better world for us all.
