SMOKING AND VA**NG CAN DAMAGE YOUR EYES
Smoking can damage important parts of your eyes such as the retina, lens and macula, which are necessary for maintaining clear eyesight and vision. This damage can make your vision cloudy, reduce your field of vision, or even cause blindness. Smoking increases your risk for cataracts, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, optic nerve problems, uveitis, and Graves’ disease.
On the other hand, a 2023 study published in the peer-reviewed journal JAMA Ophthalmology showed that adolescents and young adults who smoked and vaped (dual users) were more likely to report vision problems including dryness, redness, pain, blurry vision, light sensitivity, and headaches. Eye symptoms were significantly worse among young people who reported using both ci******es and vapes than for those who said they used only one of the products, according to researchers.
Consult your ophthalmologist for more information.

SMOKING AND VA**NG CAN WORSEN CATARACTS
A cataract is a cloudy area in the lens of your eye, the clear part of the eye that helps to focus light. Common cataract symptoms include blurred vision; seeing double or a ghosted image; increased sensitivity to light (especially with oncoming headlights at night); difficulty seeing well at night, or needing more light when you read; and seeing bright colors as faded or yellow instead.
Aging is the most common cause of cataracts. Normal eye changes begin after age 40 wherein proteins in the lens start to break down, causing the lens to get cloudy. People over age 60 usually start to have some clouding of their lenses. Smoking increases your risk of developing cataracts.
Talk to your eye doctor for more information.

WHAT IS PHOTOKERATITIS?
Photokeratitis is like having a sunburned eye. It is a painful eye condition that occurs when your eye is exposed to ultraviolet (UV) rays, either from the sun or from a man-made source. Photokeratitis affects the thin surface layer of the cornea (the clear front window of the eye) and the conjunctiva (the clear tissue covering the white part of the eye and the inside of the eyelids).
Photokeratitis can be caused by sun reflection from sand, water, ice and snow. It can also happen if you stare at the sun, such as watching a solar eclipse directly without using a special device. Photokeratitis can likewise be caused by many man-made sources of ultraviolet light, including tanning lamps and tanning beds, as well as arc welding. Consult your ophthalmologist for more information.
