If you're into health and beauty treatment, you probably heard of ear candling. It is the practice of placing a cone-shaped wax into the ear. The candle is then lit and burned for a few minutes. It is said to relieve ear pain and remove ear wax. However, studies shows that ear candling has no therapeutic value and no approved medical use. Melted wax could burn your skin or it can even clog your ear passage which causes hearing loss. Ear candling is also not advisable to patients with perforated ear drum or concurrent ear infection.
It is better to consult your ENT practitioners for any ear concerns. It is always and has been best to avail of professional treatment. Go to your ENT doctor near you.

Key Points for Quarantine, Isolation and Persistent Positive RT PCR post quarantine.
βΆοΈ Children and adults with mild, symptomatic COVID-19: Isolation can end at least 5 days after symptom onset and after fever ends for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving, if these people can continue to properly wear a well-fitted mask around others for 5 more days after the 5-day isolation period. Day 0 is the first day of symptoms.
βΆοΈ People who are infected but asymptomatic (never develop symptoms): Isolation can end at least 5 days after the first positive test (with day 0 being the date their specimen was collected for the positive test), if these people can continue to wear a properly well-fitted mask around others for 5 more days after the 5-day isolation period. However, if symptoms develop after a positive test, their 5-day isolation period should start over (day 0 changes to the first day of symptoms).
βΆοΈ People who have moderate COVID-19 illness: Isolate for 10 days.
βΆοΈ People who are severely ill (i.e., requiring hospitalization, intensive care, or ventilation support): Extending the duration of isolation and precautions to at least 10 days and up to 20 days after symptom onset, and after fever ends (without the use of fever-reducing medication) and symptoms are improving, may be warranted.
βΆοΈ People who are moderately or severely immunocompromised might have a longer infectious period: Extend isolation to 20 or more days (day 0 is the first day of symptoms or a positive viral test). Use a test-based strategy and consult with an infectious disease specialist to determine the appropriate duration of isolation and precautions.
βΆοΈ Patients who have recovered from COVID-19 can continue to have detectable SARS-CoV-2 RNA in upper respiratory specimens for up to 3 months after illness onset. However, replication-competent virus has not been reliably recovered from such patients, and they are not likely infectious.

Symptoms of Covid Omicron variant
Knowing the signs of Covid-19 is crucial to monitoring your own symptoms, or lack thereof. According to the CDC, symptoms of Covid-19 include fever, shortness of breath, cough, loss of taste or smell, fatigue, body aches, headaches, sore throat, congestion, nausea or vomiting, and diarrhea. Omicron symptoms tend to stray slightly, with data out of South Africa indicating that people with omicron experience a ββscratchy or sore throat, nasal congestion, dry cough, and muscle pain, including low back pain. Other experts have said to look out for a runny nose and/or headache.
Unless youβre able to regularly test, take note of how youβre feeling every day and continue to mask up in public settings. If you feel healthy without pain relievers and cold medicines, considering your own circumstances and history, you can safely assume youβre without symptoms, experts say. Anything less than your best means you should take every sniffle, ache, or cough seriously.
When in doubt always remember 2 important things : Isolate and Test

Doing Teleconsult for ENT is quite challenging, patient would need to relay a detailed sequential occurrence of symptoms including the medications taken. But the most important thing is to be able to show the problematic area through pictures. A clear well lit pictures like the ones shown below would greatly help in diagnosing your problem and eventually help you get better faster.
As of Jan. 13, 2022 the quarantine requirement for an asymptomatic close contact is 5days for fully vaccinated and 14 days for partially or unvaccinated individual with continued symptom monitoring up to 14 days
Fever comes and go and the most usual medicine everyone takes is Paracetamol. Additional information are listed below in relation to Paracetamol. Be safe. Be informed.

Not all Antigen test available commercially are created equal. One must take note how to properly collect the sample to avoid getting an inaccurate result.
Wrong swab = wrong result = false sense of security.
When in doubt, it would still be best to undergo the gold standard for Covid testing which is RT-PCR.
ctto: https://www.facebook.com/OfficialDOHgov
For those who opt to screen themselves with a Covid antigen test. Listed below is your guide in interpreting the result. When in doubt, proceed in doing RT-PCR to know you current health status.
When to use Covid Antigen and RT PCR
Antigen test used for symptomatic patients is fairly accurate, however it is unreliable for asymptomatic patients. A follow up confirmatory RT PCR is needed to validate the result especially if highly suspecting. RT PCR test can be done anytime for symptomatic patients but for asymptomatic, it is advised to have the test on the 5th day after the exposure.

It is a given knowledge that we have to masked up especially with the increasing rate of infection. However we need to properly wear them all the time especially if we are in the company of other individuals.

With the increasing rate of community transmission of Covid Omicron variant, here is the Isolation and Quarantine guideline both for the Covid patient and close contact.
Great news from the UK! We could all use some good news.
1. Omicron infection is THREE TIMES LESS LIKELY to require hospitalization compared to Delta.
2. Two doses of vaccine continue to protect against hospitalization against Omicron! Boosting adds about 16% more protection against hospitalization (from 65% effectiveness to 81% effectiveness). Two doses of vaccine continue to protect against hospitalization from Delta (82% effectivess) and boosting adds about 3%.
Omicron is still scary since it spreads so quickly and can cause breakthrough infection. But the breakthrough tends to be mild if vaccinated and boosted. Controlling spread is the key to cresting the Omicron wave. South Africa seems to already be emerging from it with a lot less deaths than the Delta wave. Keep those masks on, get vaccinated, and get boosted. Happy New Year and hopefully this year will finally see the end of this pandemic.

During this time, do not disregard any symptoms of sorethroat, colds, cough and fever as your usual allergic colds or flu. Better to isolate and consult first for proper guidance. Covid is still very much in our midst. Have a safe and healthy 2022.
