PGH Blood Donor Center updated their address.

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippine General Hospital has seen a sharp decline in the number of volunteers who come in to donate blood for our patients. The need for blood, however, did not decrease as much, and this deficit is causing addition strain to our already stressed operations. As we continue the heal as one, it becomes clearer that the only way to defeat this scourge is for all sectors of the society to work together in synergy.

For those willing to donate blood, kindly fill out our online pre-screening form at tinyurl.com/pghscreen. You may also proceed directly to the PGH Blood Donor Center from 8 AM to 5 PM any day of the week for on-site screening. Your gift of life will be highly appreciated by the patients we serve. Inviting everyone to drop by the PGH BLOOD DONOR CENTER TOMORROW AND THURSDAY (June 10 and 11, 8AM-4PM) to participate in SANDUGUAN.

Sanduguan is a series of Mass Blood Donations arranged by the UPM University Student Council, UPCM Medical Student Council and various student organizations that aims to address the critical shortage of blood products in the Philippine General Hospital brought about by travel restrictions caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, especially as the hospital transitions to normal operations.

These donated blood products are crucial to the normal operations of UP PGH and will be used to buffer the expected rise in demand as we wait for normal blood donation levels to rise to pre-pandemic levels.

Sanduguan is a series of Mass Blood Donations organized by the UP Medicine Student Council (MSC), together with the UP Manila University Student Council and various student councils and organizations in coordination with the UP PGH Blood Bank Service. The aim of this effort is to address the critical shortage of blood products in the Philippine General Hospital brought about by travel restrictions caused by the COVID 19 pandemic, especially as the hospital transitions to normal operations. This means that the number of surgical procedures and patient admissions are expected to rise considerably back to pre-COVID 19 levels and therefore considerably increasing demand at a time when stocks of blood products have dropped precipitously.

The MSC, USC, and various student councils and organizations will be working hand in hand to mobilize the student population to donate blood. These donated blood products are crucial to the normal operations of UP PGH and will be used to buffer the expected rise in demand as we wait for normal blood donation levels to rise to pre-pandemic levels.

To maintain safe social distancing practices, only 50 students will be scheduled per donation day. Donors will be texted their respective donation schedule and using the information collected in the screening forms. For students requiring transportation, pick-up points will be set prior to the scheduled donations and the students informed as necessary. A shuttle will also be provided to facilitate the return of the students.

The Philippine General Hospital Blood Donor Center and Blood Bank would like to express its deepest gratitude towards the UP Diliman Health Service and the UP Diliman Student Council for organizing the Mobile Blood Drive conducted yesterday, May 25, 2020, at the Virata Hall, UP Diliman. Even more so, we'd like to thank all the donors who participated in the event.

Because of you, we were able to collect 40 blood bags from the activity which would be a great help not only to the patients of PGH, but also patients from other hospitals in need of blood.

In this time of pandemic, every blood donor is a hero.

In order to protect our donors and staff during this time of pandemic, we followed the DOH Interim Guidelines on Ensuring Blood Safety and Adequacy in conducting the Mobile Blood Drive. Among other safety measures, we pre-screened donors online, limited donors to below 50 people for the event, maintained social distancing, promoted frequent handwashing, ensured all staff and donors wore masks, and limited the duration of the activity for 4 hours.

It is SAFE to donate blood.

The PGH is in constant need of blood donors. Due to the ECQ, our blood stocks have been seriously depleted, and blood donors have become seldom. However, the number of patients who require blood (e.g. patients on chemotherapy, surgical patients, anemic patients) have remained the same.

If you are healthy and wish to donate, please visit the link provided and fill-up the online donor screening form. Transportation to and from PGH for donors in Metro Manila can be arranged every Wednesday. If you have your own car or means of transpo, we can email you a checkpoint authorization pass for your scheduled donation. The PGH Blood Donor Center is now located in an area beside the Museum of a History of Ideas, (inside PGH Grounds, near Padre Faura gate)

The new venue can only accomodate four donors at a time with social distancing measures, and the waiting area will be outside the museum.

The PGH Blood Donor Center encourages healthy individuals to donate blood. We implement measures that ensure safety of donors, recipients, and staff from COVID-19 and other infectious diseases.

Donors will be screened on-site to ensure safety of the blood supply. Strict social distancing measures will also be implemented.
