Dr. Mojica is a graduate of the residency program of the UP-PGH Department of Dermatology. He completed his Fellowship in Sexually-transmitted infections at the Department of STI Control-National Skin Skin Centre Singapore. He specializes in Venereology and LGBT Health, and is currently the Assistant Training Officer and Vice Chair for Support Services of the UP-PGH Department of Dermatology.

Unveiling the Skin-Planet Connection: Explore how dermatology intersects with planetary health for a sustainable post-pandemic future.

Dr. Renzo R. Guinto earned his degrees of Doctor of Public Health from Harvard University and Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines Manila. In addition, he pursued further training from top-tier institutions including Oxford, London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, Copenhagen, Western Cape, Institute of Tropical Medicine-Antwerp, and East-West Center (Hawaii). In 2023, Dr. Guinto founded the St. Luke’s Planetary and Global Health Program, which was awarded the inaugural CUGH-Velji Planetary Health Innovation Award by the Consortium of Universities for Global Health. At present, Dr. Guinto is an Associate Professor of Global and Planetary Health at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Global Health Institute, Duke-NUS Medical School, National University of Singapore. He is also a Visiting Professor of Global and Planetary Health at the St. Luke's Medical Center College of Medicine in the Philippines and Senior Honorary Visiting Fellow at the Department of Public Health and Primary Care, University of Cambridge.

Skin cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, yet it remains a significant health concern worldwide. As the sun’s rays grow stronger with the arrival of summer, it is a crucial time to shed light on the importance of sun safety and early detection.

Here are a few steps to protect our skin from harmful UV radiation:

☼ 𝗦𝗟𝗜𝗣 𝗢𝗡 protective clothing, like a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses, and long-sleeved shirts.

☼ 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗣 𝗢𝗡 broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.

☼ 𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗞 𝗦𝗛𝗔𝗗𝗘 and avoid sun exposure as much as possible, especially from 10 AM to 2 PM.

☼ 𝗦𝗘𝗟𝗙-𝗘𝗫𝗔𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 is key. Regular whole body skin checks and prompt medical attention for any suspicious moles or spots are crucial for early detection and successful treatment.

Skin cancer awareness is not just about understanding the risks; it's about taking proactive steps to protect ourselves and our loved ones. With this, may we foster a culture of sun safety for healthy skin all year round.

Dr. Dayrit-Castro is a clinical associate professor, Chief of Division of Pediatric Dermatology at the UP-PGH Department of Dermatology, and faculty member at the De La Salle Heath Sciences College of Medicine. Dr. Nicodemus, a graduate of the UP College of Medicine, completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the Philippine General Hospital.
