𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭!

The 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐅𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 held its 1st General Assembly on the 16th day of August 2024 at Room F123 of the College of Forestry and Environmental Science Academic Building. It was an opportunity to formally introduce the newly appointed officers and address matters regarding the core values of the organization, details of cashflow, calendar of activities, and the presentation of budget allocations mounting to the announcement of the societal fee.

Despite the troubles that took place prior to the program, the ice breakers prepared filled the event with enthusiasm and amusement, amplified by the thrill of winning fun prizes. With this, students were able to establish companionship, thus fostering a sense of kinship among peers.

The success of this event would’ve been impossible if not for the students’ support and participation. We thank you for sharing this occasion with us and for making it into a memorable one.

Cheers to all the good things coming our way and hopefully to doing more of this with even greater spirit!

A few days into the semester and already, it has been quite an adventure. Back to the all-too-familiar dilemma of navigating around the labyrinth-like campus, roaming a web of college buildings, the horror at not looking our best, and the good old "missing school supplies" panic.

Whether you’ve conquered the fatigues of walking to CFES, or laughed through the embarrassment of asking seniors where room “TBA” is, every moment counts.

In the pursuit to move forward, the executive team and representatives underwent registration screening on August 5, 2024, at the 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 who directed over the assessment of the proposed projects and the budget allocated for each activity. The 70-minute deliberation considered the relevance of events, management of monetary means, and practical use of resources which uncovered alternative measures to guarantee impartiality among members. Subsequently, it brought light to the important documents required in processing important matters into motion.

On July 23, 2024, The Association of Filipino Forestry Students (AFFS) held its first Strategic Planning to engage in thoughtful deliberation and collaborative effort to devise a visionary roadmap presided by Hazel Jean Presas and assisted by the executive team and representatives.

The organization convene in a series of agendas including a thorough review of the organization’s status quo, the establishment of clear organizational goals, and the construction of an inclusive calendar of activities.

Together, we embraced the power of teamwork and forward-thinking, setting the stage for a transformative growth and achievement.

Well, we don’t only value our environment, we also value our community's well-being, collaboration, friendship, and excellence in our college.

BS Forestry students showcased their forestry skills during the mini–Forestry Olympiad organized by the Association of Filipino Forestry Students (AFFS) at the CFES grounds, April 20, 2024.
The event commenced with an invocation through the singing of the national anthem, followed by opening remarks from John Juvic M. Casas, the chairperson of AFFS.
“Talented forestry students we compete challenges to showcase to their love of the environment, this [compose] to give you an experience your mini-FO (Forestry Olympiad), held here in CMU College of Forestry and Environmental Science” Casas said.
“I have no doubt with be amaze what we see and learn a thing or two along the way, so lets cheer our participants, celebrate our fourth and enjoy field and learning and fun” he added.
Moreover, the Olympiad comprised of 5 different competition categories namely, Tree Measurement, Leaf Identification, Geographic Information System (GIS), Wood Identification, and Quiz Bowl.
Furthermore, Team Pine emerged as the overall champion, followed by Team Teak in second place, Team Yakal secured the third position, while Team Magnolia finished fourth.
The event concluded with the awarding of medals and certificates to the participants and volunteers, followed by closing remarks delivered by the AFFS adviser, Forester Erika L. Noblefranca.

The Department of Science and Technology Philippine Textile Research Institute (DOST-PTRI) conducts a training on bamboo fiber extraction among the bamboo textile project staff held at the CMU Wood Processing Complex on March 12, 2024.

This training is part of the joint research project between CMU and DOST-PTRI entitled "Quality Assessment of Bamboo Fiber from Two Economically Imported Bamboo Species for Textile Production" with the project leader, Dr. Rico A. Marin, and Field Verification of Bamboo Textile Fiber Technology Using Giant Bamboo in Northern Mindanao with the project staff, Dr. Lowell G. Aribal.
