๐จNagomi Art for Well-Being
We conducted two sessions of Nagomi Art over October/November. Our Facilitator Shu Jing from Nagomi Joy Art have been really gentle and encouraging ๐.
Nagomi Art is for everyone and you donโt need to have experience in Art as well. The participants were guided through the techniques but given the space to create something that is uniquely theirs.
As we put the art pieces together, itโs interesting to see how they are somewhat similar but different, reflecting each and every individual voices and creativity at work.
We are looking to have more regular sessions so stay tuned for more deets!
Also, we are bringing forest bathing back for November!
See you all, by the lake ๐ณ๐
Nagomi Art for Well-being

The participants loved how therapeutic the session and they were really focused on creating their art pieces, being in control and simply being themselves.
At SMSH we curate programmes that promote well-being and wellness through art and nature connection. Feel free to reach out to us to collaborate!
Looking forward for the next session at our Active Aging Centre next month!

Introducing our very first Art progamme in collaboration with Joy from . Nagomi Art is a form of healing art which originated from Japan, it uses powered pastels to create a transparent, gentle, warm and heart-touching art piece. The word โNagomiโ carries the meaning of harmony, calm and peace. The focus is not the finished work or the applied technique, but the creative process and its calming, relaxing effect on the artist. One do not need to have any experience to participate.

A Seed has Sprouted!
Happy Thursday! A couple of weeks back, SMSH volunteers attended a horticulture training conducted by NParks to learn how to curate and executed horticulture programmes for the community.
A few days ago we noticed that a seed (lady finger) planted by one of our staff has sprouted! We dont know when it will sprout (of it it will sprout) and when it did, it brings much joy and smiles to us.
Sharing this simple joy with all of you and a big thank you to NParks for conducting the training.
With that, we will be designing a series of programmes/activities with nature connection as the focus so stay tune! :)
Have a good rest, wherever you are at.

Workshop Sharing - Self-Care and Nature Connection
A week ago, Leela, who is a Social Work Practitioner, certified forest therapy guide and SMSH volunteer curated a sharing for youth of Yuhua where she shared stories of self-care, burnt out and the benefits of nature-connection and how that can help our well-being.
During the workshop, we also got to try out a mindful experience - acrylic pour put together by Yuhua Youth Network and students from SP - Aishwarya and Jazreel. A big thank you to Joey our facilitator as well for guiding us through the acrylic pour activity.
Its Monday and back to work for some of us. A reminder to pause and rest where you can and when you need to!

๐ณ Forest Bathing Walk
We were at Jurong Lake Gardens for a slow and restful saturday.
โI feel that despite of the busyness around us, we can still remain calm and collected with this forest bathing technique. It helps me to appreciate nature and my surroundingsโ - Doreen
& will be conducting monthly forest bathing walks for residents. Drop us a message if you are keen to join!
See you all in the forest in June!
๐ฑHave a restful Friday!
Introducing this resident striated heron at Jurong Lake Gardens whom we befriended during our forest bathing walks!
We are conducting our 2nd walk tomorrow and there are a couple of slots available as a group had to pull out due to health reasons. Drop us a PM if you are keen to join us!
Otherwise, have a really really good rest and weekend ahead. See you, by the lake someday!
It's a day after public holiday and most of us are back to our daily routines; be it back to work or other responsibilities we hold. It can be a little hard adjusting or transiting back to the busyness. Be a little kinder to ourselves, to our minds and bodies - take ample rest or simply do something you like before the day ends.
We are going to take a walk at Jurong Lake Gardens to do a recce for our upcoming forest bathing walk this saturday and soak in some phytoncides
โReal rest feels like every cell is thanking you for taking care of you. Itโs calm, not full of checklists and chores. Itโs simple: not multitasking; not fixing broken things.โ โ Jennifer Williamson
Emotional Health Check-In
Hey you, How are you feeling right now?
Emotional check-ins are designed to help us slow down, pause, and assess how we feel in the moment. It normalizes talking about feelings. Sometimes, we are so caught up in the everyday busyness that we neglect our feelings and risk burning out.
Today we are feeling โบ๏ธ because we are excited about the upcoming Forest Bathing Walk on 21 May.
How about you!
Stop for a Second
Some days, we could be feeling a little...
overwhelmed; busy; frustrated or even angry.
When you feel so, it may help to pause for a second and simply notice what's around you? (Bonus: Try being in a place with nature, could even be a plants corner in office/home)
I wonder what will you notice?
It is okay to not celebrate just because everyone else are. Different days, moments hold different emotions for everyone of us. For some of us, it could mean pain whereas for some it could mean Joy.
Let's embrace our own emotions and know that they are valid. If it gets overwhelming, it is okay to unplug and not look at the constant flow of celebrative messages. Perhaps if it helps, you may choose to go take a walk and be with nature or do other things that brings you comfort.
You do you.
For those of us who are celebrating and for those who are not - We hope everyone have a good day nonetheless.
We are recruiting Volunteers!
If you have a keen interest in emotional wellbeing; believes that self-care is important and loves to connect with people on the ground, come join us!
Swipe to read the roles available. We are also happy to work with educational institutions to curate an experience of learning in the community for your students.
If you have any idea or are keen to collaborate, feel free to connect and DM us.
