Taking charge of your fertility.
With changing times, there is a growing desire for couples to have more autonomy over the timing and size of their families. Advancements in clinical practices have made the prevention of unintended pregnancies safer and more efficient. Family planning reduces maternal morbidity and mortality. In addition, it allows women and their families to fulfil their life goals.
Knowledge of contraceptive options for women across different stages of life is essential. The provision of appropriate contraceptives for adolescents, postnatal women, and those with medical conditions, comes with unique considerations and needs. The range of contraceptive choices can empower women to make decisions that align with their circumstances and preferences.
The importance of universal access to sexual and reproductive healthcare services is reflected as one of the 17 United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals. In its 13th Edition, Your Women Matters discusses these family planning possibilities in the pursuit of better care for women, and in advocating for the fulfilment of women’s rights to quality healthcare. Dr Tan Toh Lick talk covers contraceptive options for adolescents to women ageing gracefully in their forties. This is followed by a talk by Dr Sheri Lim on contraceptive options for women with medical conditions.

Sexual dysfunction does not only affect a woman's health and quality of
life. It can also have implications for her self-esteem and relationships.
Despite being a common problem, the condition is not well understood and
therefore management may be challenging. Various aetiologies have been
associated with the condition ranging from apparent anatomical problems to
complex biopsychosocial issues.
Dr Tan TL's first talk will cover the diagnosis, investigation and management of
pelvic pain due to organic causes. In our second talk by Dr Huang ZW, we will delve deeper
into the understanding of the possible reasons for painful in*******se in

Working together for a healthier Singapore
To work towards a healthier Singapore, the Ministry of Health proposed to emphasize on preventive health and early intervention in addition to providing appropriate care for those with medical conditions. A key feature of Healthier SG is for everyone to enrol with a family physician of their choice as their first point of contact for healthcare as well as to discuss their health goals. It is therefore imperative that family physicians are familiar with risk factors that may complicate an individual’s life goals. In this talk, Dr TL Tan and Professor LK Tan will highlight the important health issues that can complicate the woman’s pregnancy, and conversely, the pregnancy issues that can complicate the long-term health of the woman.
Another key area focuses on a healthy mother and a healthy child. A common stress faced by parents is the bowel habit of their children. Mr Jeremy Ang will discuss the key psychological considerations for common p**p problems, as well as psychological and behavioural approaches to managing and handling these problems.
Congratulations to our nurse Grace who have been with Thomson Women's Clinic for half a decade! No doubt many patients and staff have benefited from her expertise and TLC during this time. Well done!
