Today, as the Church seeks to experience a profound missionary renewal, there is a kind of preaching which falls to each of us as a daily responsibility. It has to do with bringing the Gospel to the people we meet, whether they be our neighbours or complete strangers. This is the informal preaching which takes place in the middle of a conversation, something along the lines of what a missionary does when visiting a home.

"How do we see persons with disabilities in our parish communities? Do we even 𝘴𝘦𝘦 persons with disabilities in our parish communities or do we uncomfortably look past them? Are we fearful or accepting, uncomfortable or embracing? Are we so strongly convicted of the dignity of all persons that we can embrace differences and accept and treat those living with disabilities as equals?" 🤔

We are called to include in our work a dimension of receptivity and gratuity, which is quite different from mere inactivity. Rather, it is another way of working, which forms part of our very essence. It protects human action from becoming empty activism; it also prevents that unfettered greed and sense of isolation which make us seek personal gain to the detriment of all else.

This past Saturday, we brought together - for the first time - the five parish teams we're accompanying on the process of Pastoral Conversion of the Parish (P*P).

The first of (hopefully) many joint sessions, this dialogue helped participants get a better sense of the current state and understanding of formation in their respective parishes, as well as envision what formation can be based on how Jesus forms.

The heart of the Catholic Church beats with a missionary and evangelistic spirit. After His Ascension, Jesus charged His Apostles with a pivotal mission: to await the Holy Spirit's descent and spread His message to the world (Acts 1:8). This mission is fueled by the unity of the Catholic faithful, where each member, with their unique gifts, contributes to the common purpose in communion.

This Mission Sunday, we are reminded of this very call that is extended to each of us, regardless of the roles we play at home, in our communities, or in our workplaces.

Cardinal Mario Grech, General Secretary of the Synod Secretariat, has invited people worldwide to join in prayer for the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the of Bishops, commencing on 4th October in the Vatican. This event is primarily a spiritual occasion, emphasising prayer and listening to the Holy Spirit as the true protagonist. The General Secretariat of the Synod has prepared a "Solemn Blessing" and intercessory prayers. Let us do our bit to pray, whether privately or with our families, communities or groups.

Do not be afraid to set your sights higher, to allow yourself to be loved and liberated by God. Do not be afraid to let yourself be guided by the Holy Spirit. Holiness does not make you less human, since it is an encounter between your weakness and the power of God’s grace. For in the words of León Bloy, when all is said and done, “the only great tragedy in life, is not to become a saint”.
