What a beautiful initiative!! 36 youths inviting neighbouring residents to the parish's sponsored meal outreach event on 18 Nov. [The event is on Day 1 of 8 of the parish's upcoming Threefold Celebrations.]

A great way for the parish to share God's love with those beyond its doors, and to welcome them to join in the celebrations! :D

Today, as the Church seeks to experience a profound missionary renewal, there is a kind of preaching which falls to each of us as a daily responsibility. It has to do with bringing the Gospel to the people we meet, whether they be our neighbours or complete strangers. This is the informal preaching which takes place in the middle of a conversation, something along the lines of what a missionary does when visiting a home.

Be Christ at your workplaces 09/11/2023

'“The vocation of the layperson is to do the work of Christ in the world and at your workplaces,” said Father David Garcia, OP.

The “split between the faith, which many profess, and their daily lives, deserves to be counted among the more serious errors of our age,” he said, quoting the Second Vatican Council document Gaudium et spes (The Church in the Modern World).'

Am I an It? - Word on Fire 07/11/2023

"How do we see persons with disabilities in our parish communities? Do we even 𝘴𝘦𝘦 persons with disabilities in our parish communities or do we uncomfortably look past them? Are we fearful or accepting, uncomfortable or embracing? Are we so strongly convicted of the dignity of all persons that we can embrace differences and accept and treat those living with disabilities as equals?" 🤔

Am I an It? - Word on Fire How do we see persons with disabilities? There are no “its” in the Body of Christ. We must work to bring all members to the Lord's altar.

Love Tenderly - Word on Fire 05/11/2023

"This love of God is always engaging. When it encounters us, it shakes us up and calls us out of our comfort zones. Love is not a fuzzy feeling. It sends us out on mission. It sends us to help the poor, to seek justice, and to serve the common good. Love claims us and sends us to where God wants us to be."

Love Tenderly - Word on Fire We must stay close to Jesus and love tenderly like him. But love is not a fuzzy feeling. It sends us out on mission.

We are called to include in our work a dimension of receptivity and gratuity, which is quite different from mere inactivity. Rather, it is another way of working, which forms part of our very essence. It protects human action from becoming empty activism; it also prevents that unfettered greed and sense of isolation which make us seek personal gain to the detriment of all else.

Making Friends with the Saints: A How-To | Blessed is She 01/11/2023

The journey of discipleship can sometimes feel like a lonely one. Thankfully, we are never truly alone. The saints in heaven are our companions, and we can turn to them for intercession and inspiration. Read on to find out how!

This past Saturday, we brought together - for the first time - the five parish teams we're accompanying on the process of Pastoral Conversion of the Parish (P*P).

The first of (hopefully) many joint sessions, this dialogue helped participants get a better sense of the current state and understanding of formation in their respective parishes, as well as envision what formation can be based on how Jesus forms.

What would 𝘺𝘰𝘶 say formation is? :)

9 Essential Bible quotes for when you need clarity 30/10/2023

"The problem is that when our heads are filled to the brim, we often lose our sense of reason and logic, and spiral into even more confusion. And this is when we need to take a step back, breathe, and look elsewhere for clarity in our lives. Thankfully, as Christians, the Bible can provide us with the perfect solution to finding this lucidity."

Rest opens our eyes to the larger picture and gives us renewed sensitivity to the rights of others. And so the day of rest, centred on the Eucharist, sheds it light on the whole week, and motivates us to greater concern for nature and the poor.

Am I missing out on love because I don't claim it? 23/10/2023

Food for thought today! 🤔

Am I missing out on love because I don't claim it? At times of waiting, restlessness, discontent, do we act as if we're questioning what we already know?

The heart of the Catholic Church beats with a missionary and evangelistic spirit. After His Ascension, Jesus charged His Apostles with a pivotal mission: to await the Holy Spirit's descent and spread His message to the world (Acts 1:8). This mission is fueled by the unity of the Catholic faithful, where each member, with their unique gifts, contributes to the common purpose in communion.

This Mission Sunday, we are reminded of this very call that is extended to each of us, regardless of the roles we play at home, in our communities, or in our workplaces.

Christian spirituality incorporates the value of relaxation and festivity. We tend to demean contemplative rest as something unproductive and unnecessary, but this is to do away with the very thing which is most important about work: its meaning.

Efforts by households to reduce pollution and waste, and to consume with prudence, are creating a new culture. The mere fact that personal, family and community habits are changing is contributing to greater concern about the unfulfilled responsibilities of the political sectors and indignation at the lack of interest shown by the powerful. Let us realise, then, that even though this does not immediately produce a notable effect from the quantitative standpoint, we are helping to bring about large processes of transformation rising from deep within society.

Making Time For Prayer 08/10/2023

"Praying more can seem overwhelming if you are busy like me, but if you add up all the praying I just shared, it is well over an hour a day. As I said before, if it is not scheduled it will not happen. Also, don’t let my encouragement of a prayer routine ever discourage you from spontaneous prayer as situations warrant it."

Making Time For Prayer If we are faithfully praying each day we are less likely to fall under the world’s spell. It’s not as difficult as we might think.

A spirituality of communion means to know how to "make room" for our brothers and sisters, bearing "each other's burdens" (Gal 6:2) and resisting the selfish temptations which constantly beset us and provoke competition, careerism, distrust and jealousy.

The Illusion of Success 03/10/2023

"The idea of success that many of us are taught at a young age is often an illusion that can create frustration, anxiety and years of wasted time as we wind up chasing something that may not be what we need or want as we continue to grow older. My father was wise enough to avoid this trap and he did his best to convey the lesson to me, although I must admit I spent several years in the quicksand of pursuing false success."

The Illusion of Success The more I detach myself from modern society’s view of success, the happier and more fulfilled I feel.

Expecting the Lord 01/10/2023

"Essentially a soldier, the Christian is always on the lookout. He has sharper ears and hears an undertone that others miss; his eyes see things in a particularly candid light, and he senses something to which others are insensible, the streaming of a vital current through all things. He is never submerged in life, but keeps his head and shoulders clear of it and his eyes free to look upward. Consequently he has a deeper sense of responsibility than others. When this awareness and watchfulness disappear, Christian life loses its edge; it becomes dull and ponderous." - Fr Romano Guardini https://catholicexchange.com/expecting-the-lord/

Expecting the Lord Early Christianity was acutely conscious of the imminence of Christ’s coming. We see this in references to it in the Acts and feel it in the letters of St. Paul. Pastoral Letter on Building Community 24/09/2023

Published in 2015, this pastoral letter by our Archbishop, William Cardinal Goh, is a must-read (and even re-read from time to time) for all, especially those who serve or work in the Church.

"... if our mission is to bring all into communion with each other in love and unity through our fellowship with the Holy Trinity, then we must seek every means to preserve, protect and foster communion in our workplace, Church ministries, organisations, parishes and archdiocesan bodies, whether they are full-time workers, volunteers or helpers."

Pastoral Letter on Building Community An Essential for the Work of the New Evangelisation Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,In many of his letters, St John Paul II underscored the importance of communion in the mission of the Church. How good it feels to come back to Him whenever we are lost! Let me say this once more: God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking his mercy. Christ, who told us to forgive one another “seventy times seven” (Mt 18:22) has given us his example: he has forgiven us seventy times seven. Time and time again he bears us on his shoulders. No one can strip us of the dignity bestowed upon us by this boundless and unfailing love.

Constancy: Faithfulness in the Day-to-day Often times we find ourselves getting off on a great start in our spiritual life after a retreat, a great Confession, a mission trip or some other circumstance in which we had an authentic encounter with Christ.
