Raising their voices in faith: Catholic school choirs count down to the Papal Mass with only days to go.
As the students practice the song “Arise, Shine” for the Papal Mass, their sweet voices blend in harmonious anticipation. Each note carries hope, echoing through throughout the Church of the Holy Spirit. Surely, Pope Francis would be delighted by this heartfelt offering—a chorus of unity and joy rising from young hearts.

In a video message accompanying his prayer intention for September, Pope Francis the Holy Father says that it is the poor who suffer most from environmental disasters, pointing especially to those forced to leave their homes due to floods, heat waves, or drought.
Our response, he continues, must be comprehensive, involving not only ecological but also “social, economic, and political” action. “We must commit ourselves to the fight against poverty”, the Pope says, and to “the protection of nature” by making both personal and communal changes”.

What a beautiful celebration of creativity and faith! The Pope Francis Art Competition has sparked something special in many of our children.
Young artists from various Catholic schools poured their hearts into their artwork, reflecting on the theme of Unity and Hope in anticipation of Pope Francis’ visit. Marymount Convent School and Canossa Catholic Primary School students have submitted a total of 84 entries—each brushstroke a prayer, each colour a testament to their faith.
Parents and teachers agree that participating in this competition has given students an opportunity to reflect deeper on the meaning of the visit from His Holiness. Click on the link in the Bio to read Michelle Tan’s article on how the Art competition has perfectly complemented efforts to prepare the students for the visit of Pope Francis.
And guess what? It’s not too late for more young talents to participate! There’s even a Video Competition for those who prefer film-making.

One of the 8 belongs to Montfort Junior School.

Our own children and teens from the catechism classes also donned their respective Catholic school uniforms and served at the Chinese and English Masses. To show their support to their peers, the other children from non-Catholic schools wore their Parish T-shirts to serve alongside with their friends.
Thank you, God, for the gift of children and teens, and the precious gift of Catholic education!

The schools represented include:

To celebrate Catholic Education Sunday 2024, staff, students and parents of Marymount Convent School came together as one school community at the Church of the Holy Spirit.

"This year, Catholic Education Sunday was celebrated on the feast of Sr Joseph Calasanz, patron saint of all Christian popular schools.
To celebrate this special day, our school supervisor, Sr Jean-Marie Fernandez, staff, students, and parents came together as one school community at the Church of the Holy Spirit. We attended the 9.30 a.m. Mass. Our girls served as Ministers of Hospitality, carried the offertory gifts, and proclaimed the Word of God as Lectors. We were inspired by Fr Cary Chan's homily, which focused on the important role of Catholic schools and Catholic education in character building and values integration.

Education in mission schools is special and unique; it is a wonderful gift for our students. We thank the early missionaries for their tireless zeal to bring education to Singapore.

'...may our Catholic schools flourish and be sanctuaries for all students to thrive and learn in harmony, growing in full measure to be the salt and light of the world." (Taken from Prayer for Catholic Schools - composed by William Cardinal Goh)"

“Education cannot be neutral. It is either positive or negative; either it enriches or it impoverishes; either it enables a person to grow or it lessens, even corrupts him. The mission of schools is to develop a sense of truth, of what is good and beautiful.” - Pope Francis

Students from St Joseph’s Institution and St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary served as Ministers of Hospitality and Lectors and sang with the Sacred Heart Choir, in celebration of Catholic Education Sunday

Today the Archdiocese celebrated Catholic Education Sunday. Together in celebration with us at the 10AM Mass were the young Catholics from St Joseph’s Institution and St Anthony’s Canossian Secondary who served as Ministers of Hospitality and Lectors and lent their beautiful voices to the Sacred Heart Choir. They are the future of our Catholic Church and may the Holy Spirit guide them and continue to ignite in them the spark of service, charity and evangelisation for His Kingdom here on earth.

Students of CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity marked Catholic Education Sunday by serving at mass at the Church of Our Lady of the Nativity on 25 Aug 2024.

"Catholic Education Sunday (CES) is celebrated annually as a reminder that families, parishes and schools must collaborate in the integral formation of our children and youth. This year, CES was celebrated on 25 August 2024, the feast day of St Joseph Calasanz, who worked hard to provide a free yet truly Catholic Education to poor boys of his time through the founding of the Pious Schools.

Our Faith Ambassadors served proudly in various ministries alongside students from Holy Innocents' High School during Mass at the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary to showcase the values and teachings they have gained through Catholic education.

We continue to ask God for His blessings upon our students and educators, and to also ask St.
Joseph Calasanz to intercede for us, that our Catholic schools may "develop an understanding of all that is true, good and beautiful." (Pope Francis, 2017)"

This morning, the SJI Junior family celebrated 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲 (𝐂𝐄𝐒) during the 8am Mass at Novena Church. 𝐂𝐄𝐒 is an opportunity for home-parish-school collaboration as well as an annual reminder of why families, parishes and schools must collaborate in the integral formation of our children and youth.
Before the Mass, our Josephians distributed 𝐂𝐄𝐒 Prayer Cards to the church-goers. There were also Josephians serving during the Mass as Altar boys, readers and offertory bearers. May the presence of students in their Catholic school uniforms attending and serving at Mass remind us that the faith education of our children and youth is the joint responsibility of parents, schools and parishes!

Catholic Education Sunday was celebrated at the Church of St Anne by students of CHIJ St Joseph’s Convent.

"“A good school provides a rounded education for the whole person, and a good Catholic school, over and above all this, should help all of its students to become saints.” – Pope Benedict XVIWe celebrate Catholic Education Sunday today (25 Aug 2024), on the feast day of St. Joseph Calasanz, Universal Patron of all Christian popular schools in the world. To commemorate this special occasion, our girls served as lectors and hospitality ministers at the 9.30am Mass at St Anne’s Church this morning. Parents of our students also joined us as we celebrated the Eucharist together as one universal Church.May we who serve, teach and study in Catholic schools strive to always be faithful witnesses of Christ, living out the Gospel values of love, compassion and humility."

Students from St Theresa’s Convent served during mass at St Theresa’s Church for Catholic Education Sunday.

"“Catholic education is not about knowing things or taking lessons but about being able to use 3 lingos: the head, the heart and the hands.”Pope FrancisAs part of Catholic Education Sunday this weekend, our Catholic Theresians served at the 10am Mass at Church of St. Teresa as lectors, hospitality ministers, and singers alongside the church choir. We thank God for the gift of Catholic Education through which knowledge moves hearts to compassion, and inspires hands to serve with love. It takes a village to raise a child in the way of the Lord. Let us work together in sowing and nurturing the seeds of love to form children after the heart of God for generations to come."

Why we celebrate Catholic Education Sunday (CES)
Catholic Education in Singapore aims to instil strong moral values and virtues in our students, guided by the Catholic Social Teaching principles of Respecting Human Dignity and Serving the Common Good. With a firm belief that each of us is made in the image and likeness of God and called to use our gifts for the service of humanity, ACCS sees Catholic Education as the responsibility of families, parishes and schools.

“Like a good Mother, the Church offers help to families by establishing Catholic schools that ensure the integral formation of their children. (J. Miller, Holy See’s Teaching on Catholic Schools, Pg. 30)

CES is an opportunity for home-parish-school collaboration as well as an annual reminder of why families, parishes and schools must collaborate in the integral formation of our children and youth.

Student of SJC spent time praying and reflecting on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

"As Catholics celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary today, we are reminded to model our lives after our Blessed Mother, living in total obedience to the will of God and glorifying Him in all that we do.
Our Secondary 1-3 Catholic girls had the opportunity to experience a time of prayer and reflection during the Annual Novena Procession
(ANP) Outreach conducted by the Redemptorist Mission Team and Redemptorist fathers yesterday morning. Encouraged by the testimony of Fr Terence Wee and the presence of the RMT members who shared their perspectives with us, our girls reflected on their strengths and what God may be calling them to. The session aptly concluded with a time for all present to pen their petitions to our Mother of Perpetual Help and implore our Blessed Mother's continued intercession and maternal protection.
We thank the members of the Redemptorist Mission Team and Redemptorist fathers for helping us to experience our Blessed Mother's love and reminding us to always trust in God's guidance and providence."

Students of SACPS and SACSS were reminded to emulate Mary in having a deep relationship with the Lord.

""Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners and guide us on the way that leads to heaven." Pope Francis
Father Edward Seah celebrated the Feast of the Assumption Mass for the Catholic staff and students of SACPS and SACSS. In his homily, he reminded us to be like Mary, whose joy comes from having a deep relationship with God and not from things or persons. We can entrust our worries to Mary as she is a loving and caring Mother to all of us.
