Since decades ago, medical corporations in Singapore are collecting data from patients under directives from MOH. Regardless hospitals or clinics, chinese or western are collecting information, and so is our clinic, every single patient details are recorded.
Recently in Singapore, new law was passed on limitation of collection of info from customers for commercial use, highlighted word: "commercial use" , that is not inclusive of medical. Singaporeans had also became more sensitive about their personal information.
In recent years, we tried to make things simpler for our patients, limited collection of data to those who require claims from their company or insurance company. The transition was smooth, Till the law was passed. We then faced question at times by patients on the collection of data, which boils my blood at times. I'll normally raise a few points to convince them.
1. When the hospitals stop collecting data, so will we. Or rather simply put, when MOH changed their stand on this issue.
2. Even if top officials or top athletes visit our clinic, they have to fill in the details if they wanna do a claim, No exclusions. collection of name, IC, age, gender, address and contact number.
3. If you are cooperative in handing over your IC in western clinic for registration.
Whats the hestitation in doing so in TCM clinic. Does MOH have policy that when seeing TCM physicians, TCM physicians cannot collect details? And meanwhile, western doctors are able to? And If thats the your thought, what are you doing here? Western doors are wide open for you.
4. In filling up address, fill in the whole address please, you do not own the street like a datuk. Nor that you bought the whole HDB block. Maybe you can be the MP for the area, but it isn't stated in your IC.
5. You have the option of not requesting for the receipt by all means. Why fret about tens of dollar of medical bill and risk divulging your prestige identity? Which raises another question, if you are so cooperative about giving data to your insurance agent.. why make things hard for us to help you claim from them?
I'll come up with the chinese version after i chill down.
