Earlier this month, TP was proud to be part of the Beyond the Label Festival, a nationwide campaign by the National Council of Social Service aimed at reducing stigma and promoting social inclusion for persons with mental health conditions. 🌟

Our students from Peer Supporters-in-Action collaborated with SHINE Children & Youth Services, a social service agency, to run a student-led workshop. Participants embarked on an immersive journey through the life of "Charlie," a youth struggling with mental health, gaining insight into his experiences. This was followed by the Human Library segment 🧠, where young people shared their real-life stories on mental health, offering deeper understanding and connection. 💬💖

At TP’s booth, participants were introduced to Sand Tray Therapy 🏖️ and an interactive card game, both designed to help them explore their mental health in creative and safe ways. These activities encouraged personal reflection and sparked empathetic conversations. Together, we are making strides in breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and building a more inclusive society. 💪✨

Laura Kim, Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta & Monse graced us with her presence and shared her experience in the fashion industry 👗🪡.

Her golden 💫 advice: “In your 20’s, give it everything you've got to secure your position in the fashion industry and explore what you can do.”💯

Students from Temasek Polytechnic, Singapore Polytechnic, Ngee Ann Polytechnic, Republic Polytechnic, Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts NAFA and LASALLE College of the Arts engaged in dynamic and thought-provoking 💡 conversations with her, gaining valuable insights and inspiration.

WorldSkills Lyon 2024 has come to a close, and we are proud to announce that TP comes home with a total of five award winners! 🏆 WorldSkills Singapore

Congratulations to Werrill Wong for winning Gold 🥇 in Logistics and Freight Forwarding, Teo Jun Yang Jonathan for earning Silver 🥈 in Water Technology, and Zechariah Tan Shen Wei for securing Bronze 🥉 in Web Technologies. Shout out to Lee Zheng Han and Matthew Francis for receiving the Medallion of Excellence 🏅 in Mechatronics.

We had the honour of hosting His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office of Brunei Darussalam.👑 The visit was led by Ms. Grace Fu, Minister for Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, and TP’s Deputy Principal, Mr Aw Tuan Kee.

We began with a tour of TP’s Aquaculture Innovation Centre (AIC), showcasing our contributions to the aquaculture industry, including innovations such as the disease pathogen detection kit and feed-making lab. 🐟 The tour continued at the Centre for Research & Opportunities in Plant Science (CROPS), where the team presented a variety of medicinal herbs and plants cultivated in-house. 🌱 Our final stop - the Temasek Gallery, located within TP’s library, where we shared our work in cellular agriculture, focusing on sustainable food production through fish cell line development, 3D food scaffold printing, and bioreactor optimisation. 🍽️

To deepen ties and foster collaboration with our friendly neighbour, three MOUs were signed. The first, with Politeknik Brunei, aims to facilitate student and staff exchanges and the sharing of expertise. 💡 The second, with the International Association for Agricultural Sustainability and the Brunei Economic Development Board, focuses on developing Brunei’s aquaculture and agriculture sectors through the creation of an ASEAN Smart Aquaculture Hub. 🌾 The third, with Universiti Brunei Darussalam, seeks to enhance cooperation in research, education, training, and industrial engagement, including the establishment of a Joint Laboratory Facility. 🧪 Exciting times ahead!

Congratulations to Zhang Huiyu for being a finalist in the President’s Award for Teachers (PAT) 2024! 💫👏

Huiyu, an innovative educator from our School of Informatics & IT, has a deep passion for leveraging educational technology to enhance her students’ learning experiences. Her AI-enabled chatbots, now utilised by fellow lecturers, provide a learning analytics dashboard that offers insights into students’ learning preferences, engagement, knowledge gaps, and self-regulated learning behaviours. These insights have enabled lecturers to better support their students. In 2023, she was awarded the Education Innovation Award for this project. 💯

Another notable achievement was the development of an app as part of a cross-school collaboration to enhance empathy skills among students from the Diploma in Hospitality & Tourism Management. As a Senior Academic Mentor, Huiyu has mentored staff within her own school and beyond, sharing strategies for engaging students through personalised learning, gamification, and project-based learning.

Big shout-out to the Temasek Polytechnic Dance Ensemble (TPDE) for clinching the second 🥈 position at the World Supremacy Battlegrounds Singapore Vol. 4 (Tertiary Category), 🎉 a premier stage for dancers to showcase their skills, creativity and artistry. 💃🏻

Our TPDE team, led by talented alumni, featured over 30 skilled dancers from diverse backgrounds. Collectively, they captivated everyone with their incredible teamwork and electrifying performance, while creating many unforgettable moments on the dance floor. 💫 Keep dancing, keep inspiring, and keep aiming high! 💯

Our School of Business students Mark Chow and Angelique Tan, together with TP’s Deputy Principal Anita Kuan and our friends from Singapore Polytechnic, had the opportunity to attend a national event 👏, featuring a State Address by Pope Francis at NUS University Cultural Centre.

The address highlighted key issues such as environmental sustainability, climate action, digital strength, and social justice. It also emphasised the importance of social harmony, diversity, economic prosperity, and love for family. This gathering, attended by key leaders and institutions across Singapore, provided our students with a unique experience in civic engagement. 🌍

“Do you have any drug allergy?” “Take 1 tablet 3 times a day after food.” 💊 These sentences are heard during a typical practical lesson that Justin conducts 👨‍🏫. He uses his own personal experiences 🙌 and scenes from movies 🎬 to illustrate complex concepts and help students apply what is learned 📚 in classes to real-life scenarios.

Justin’s teaching experience in TP has been both fun 🤩 and enriching. But his favourite memories are when students have their EUREKA 💡 moments with twinkles in their eyes, while solving a problem independently and understanding the lesson 📖.

When he was in the healthcare industry 🏥, Justin developed a strong network, and met with many wonderful mentors 🤝 who provided him with plenty of opportunities to grow and learn 📈. With an open and growth mindset, he embraced these opportunities 💫, and now looks to impart this knowledge to students.

Fun fact about Justin: he has a collection of PlayStations, from PS1 to PS4! 🎮 A passionate console gamer, Justin finds nostalgia in each PlayStation, as they each tell a different story in his life journey. 🫶🏽

Congratulations to Temasek Polytechnic Dance Ensemble (TPDE) for clinching the third 🥉 position at the recent Super 24 dance competition (Tertiary Category), under the guidance of the group’s resident Modern Dance 💃🏻 instructor, Nikki Chan! 🎉

Super 24 is a competition that features the world's first four-sided performance format, in which teams of 24 dancers dance within an 8x8 metre square, performing a strict 90-second routine.

It was an intense 🔥 battle with our dancers pitting their skills against 13 other tertiary teams from universities, polytechnics and ITEs, and a much-lauded showcase of their diligence, showmanship and artistic creativity. 💫 Cheers for flying the TP flag high and keep reaching for the stars! ✨

He’s also behind the brand identities for Bynd Artisan, Tong Heng, and the bold ‘X’ in Xtra’s logo. 👏

Exciting News! 👏 We are delighted to announce a groundbreaking collaboration between TP and Accenture Southeast Asia with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to launch our inaugural Hub-In-Residence programme!

This innovative education-industry partnership will enhance TP’s Pre-Employment Training by incorporating industry practices into TP courses, offering students unparalleled opportunities to immerse themselves in real-world experiences. Through hands-on projects, mentorship from industry leaders, and insights into emerging trends, students will be thoroughly prepared for the dynamic challenges of the future. This partnership will also grant Accenture early access to emerging talent, through year-long internships and employment opportunities.

A brand-new Innovation Hub, set to open within TP’s School of Business by the end of the year, will facilitate cross-school collaborative projects and serve as a showcase for work completed in partnership with Accenture.
