After-Hours at Plain Vanilla | Introducing our second Guest Chef: Shalu Asnani of .sg – a former legal eagle that turned her love for big, bold flavours with a clean-eating edge into a 12-year culinary career reimagining menus for restaurants, leading plant-based cooking masterclasses and hosting private dinners for luminaries including Dr. Jane Goodall.
In this one-night-only event, Chef Shalu will present a four-course modern vegan menu of moreish, richly layered creations you won’t quite find anywhere else. Created for the seasoned vegetarian and food-curious carnivore alike, this culinary experience will satisfy each craving with dishes that are as decadent as they are wholesome — a celebration of the surprising possibilities of plant-based dining.

A space for respite just off the city centre, our Neil Road cafe is also a third place that plays host to students working hard at their projects, remote workers on conference calls, business partners discussing a potential collaboration, and the occasional dinner event in our After-Hours at PV series.
What’s your favourite way to spend time at our stores?
When we launched a new range of celebration cakes last year, we wanted to create our version of a highly-requested classic: the Black Forest Cake. To do so, we tasted numerous black forest cakes before setting out to make what we think is the winning formula: chocolate cake layers that are just the right balance between softness and fudgy-ness, whipped cream that's the right amount of lightness and sweetness, and cherries soaked in just the right amount of alcohol and cut into chunks for the right amount of texture. And most importantly, the cake had to be covered in grated chocolate shards for the classic mouthfeel you look for in a black forest cake – all these combined together made a Black Forest Cake that we're proud to serve and excited to enjoy ourselves.

Last call for RSVPs | An Italian classic of slow roasted pork marinated overnight with herbs and spices, the Slow Roasted Porchetta takes two days to make and is one of 's most requested dish of all time. After-Hours at Plain Vanilla: The Guest Chef Series | is excited to welcome three private dining chefs to the cosy space of our Neil Road home for a series of intimate full-course dinners. From elevated classics to modern vegetarian dishes, our guest chefs share an inspiring passion for food, making food, and sharing them with others to enjoy.
The first of our guests is – a pioneer of the local home private dining scene. Celebrating their 10-year anniversary with one of their very first mainstay menus, Chef Kenneth Yong will serve four courses of globally-inspired yet comfortingly-familiar flavours that include their Signature Seafood Paella and Bruschetta of Cherry Tomatoes and Burrata. Guests will also have the option to top up for their well-loved Slow Roasted Porchetta or handmade .Everything Sicilian Pistachio Ice Cream on the day.

As if straight out of a '60s poster, our American-inspired July Cupcake Specials are on our counters for one more week: Apple Caramel Custard is a nod to the quintessentially American fruit that is often used in bakes all over the States, while Chocolate Cherry Cola is the picture of retro nostalgia with a maraschino cherry sitting atop a swirl of dark chocolate cola ganache coated in popping chocolate to recall the iconic soda pop.

This World Chocolate Day, we look back on the very first tart we baked for you: our Salted Caramel Truffle Tart. With a simple intent to use straightforward, dependable ingredients to create a rich and satisfying treat, numerous iterations culminated in a decadent, chocolate-laden confection of salty and sweet, with a dark chocolate shortbread tart crust filled with our house-made salted caramel, and finished with a simple ganache made from the finest chocolate we have in house. It brings us joy to know that this tart is still a crowd favourite today. Happy World Chocolate Day!

May Brunch Specials | Tomato Velouté Soup, Turkish Eggs, and Pastrami & Cheese Bagel – the first a revival of one of our classic brunch dishes of the early days, and the latter two new delights richly flavoured from perfectly poached eggs placed atop Aleppo butter and spiced yoghurt to tender beef pastrami assembled with melted gruyère cheese and tangy sauerkraut.

Last Friday evening, our East Coast cafe hosted in an enchanting night of string music, hearty food, and poetry reading. Alternating between dishes whipped up by our kitchen team and Tee Khoon and Hunter's deft playing of the violin and guitar, couples and mother-daughter pairs joined us in an engaging and in-depth look at Schumann's 'A Woman's Love and Life'. Both casual listeners and lovers of classical music alike soaked in the music, mulled over poetry and filled their bellies with a sumptuous three-course feast.

Skip the artificial preservatives. Buy from local suppliers; that way you know your eggs are fresh and your coffee beans newly roasted. Use seasonal produce so you’ll always be getting the best of the crop. And never ever, ever take shortcuts. Sift that flour thrice, toast those walnuts and grate that lemon zest by hand just as you’re about to use it.
We won’t lie to you; it takes a good dose of heart. We honour home baking traditions and keep our recipes uncomplicated, but we take the time to get it bang-on perfect. We mull over spices, chocolate and fruits and deliberate on how to refine familiar flavours. We think real hard about what we put in front of you to eat.
