Today marked a milestone for our Grade 12 students at Dover as they gathered for their Leavers' Assembly! From heartfelt speeches by students from different grades to Bhangra and Rock Show performances, it was an incredible celebration of our students and their achievements. It wouldn't be Leavers' Assembly without the iconic Leavers' Song performed by Primary School which truly tugged at our heartstrings. The Grand Walk was the best way to end the series of emotional events as our community lined up the paths around the school to bid farewell to our young graduates of the Class of 2024. Dover and East students excelled at the WMC Senior Mathematics Competition, showcasing their mathematical prowess and forging connections with fellow enthusiasts. What a day filled with learning, achievement, and unforgettable experiences!
Furthermore, our Mathematics students embarked on an exciting journey to the Singapore Flyer, immersing themselves in real-world trigonometry as part of their assessment. Equipped with clinometers and trundle wheels, they meticulously measured the flyer, rode the attraction to record time against height, and even employed triangulation techniques to gauge distances to Singapore's iconic supertrees across the river. Their detailed reports, complete with models, now serve as the culmination of their trigonometry unit.
It's Day 2 of Dover Leavers' Week! Following our yearly tradition, today our Grade 12 students have turned into superheroes and villains. Take a peek at their amazing costumes!
Grade 11 IBDP Theatre students at East presented their page to stage work covering all aspects of putting on a production – The Love of the Nightingale by playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker. The work undertaken challenged the students to recontextualise and interpret a classic Greek myth leading into a fully realised show designed, directed and performed by the students.
The Love of the Nightingale is an adaptation of the ancient Greek myth of Philomela. The production followed the violent manipulation of Philomele by her brother-in-law, Tereus, and her subsequent silencing. Through the use of male and female choruses, the play tells the story of a woman who refuses to be silenced, despite the powerful patriarchal society. Exploring status and power dynamics, the play highlights the importance of questioning injustices in society.
