2024世界环境日聚焦土地恢复、荒漠化与抗旱能力，以 “我们的土地。我们的未来。我们是 #恢复一代”为口号。

为了唤醒公众关注与保护环境的意识，联合国规划署UNEP在全球各地逐步展开行动，包括在喀麦隆投注资源加强保护生物多样地区、永续管理刚果盆地、在沙特阿拉伯种植100亿棵树并划设30%土地为自然保护区等。

恢复自然使生命复兴，帮助贫穷地区更具备对抗极端天气的韧性，也可增加土地的储碳功能，减缓气候变迁。据统计，只要修复15%等土地，并停止破坏，将可能阻止60%预期的物种灭绝。

修复土地的方式包含杜绝滥伐、有效管理土地用途、友善且永续的农耕方式、保护自然栖息地、减少开发以及阻止污染和破坏水源。

2024 World Environment Day campaign focuses on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience.

To enhance public consciousness and protect the environment, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is implementing various initiatives globally. These include bolstering the preservation of biodiverse regions in Cameroon, promoting sustainable forest management in the Congo Basin, initiating a project to plant 10 billion trees in Saudi Arabia, and designating 30% of land as nature reserves.

Reviving nature can rejuvenate ecosystems, enhance the resilience of vulnerable regions to extreme weather events, and bolster the land’s capacity to store carbon, thereby aiding in the mitigation of climate change. By restoring just 15% of the land and halting further degradation, it is projected that around 60% of anticipated extinctions could be averted.

Land restoration efforts encompass strategies such as halting deforestation, implementing effective land-use management, adopting eco-friendly and sustainable agricultural practices, safeguarding natural habitats, curbing excessive development, and preventing pollution and water contamination.

The Grand Finale of the Bulky Waste to Wonder Competition 2023 was held at the National Gallery of Singapore on October 29.

A big Congratulations to all the winners, and a big THANK to all the partners involved!

The winning creations will be featured at the National Gallery till 2 November, at JOS&Sunon’s Sustainability Experience Center on 3 November, and subsequently in a traveling exhibition, allowing these young innovators to display their talent and ingenuity to a broader audience.

As an old saying goes, "It takes ten years to grow trees, but a hundred years to bring up a generation of good men." Today, we have planted a seed of hope, ensuring the principles of sustainable development and environmental protection are preserved for future generations.

In order to encourage the younger generation to turn waste into treasure with wisdom, give used furniture a second life, and practice sustainable living, J.O.E Eco Alliance, in collaboration with the Public Hygiene Council and the Ministry of Education of Singapore, has jointly launched the Bulky Waste to Wonder Competition 2023.

This commitment is not only a testament to sustainable development but also a tribute to the unlimited potential and bright future of the young generation.

The Design Workshop for the competition was successfully held at the JOS&Sunon Experience Center on August 26, 2023.

Under the guidance of our esteemed partners from JLL and Triple Eyelid, our young visionaries will be equipped with the tools to transform their visions into tangible realities. And on SG Clean Day, the world will witness their brilliance, brought to life by our dedicated OEM partners, E3 and Welead.

In the spirit of community and sustainability, J.O.E humbly requests everyone to spread the word about this competition to their family members, friends, and colleagues. Together, let's inspire more youths to join in. Because in the hands of our youth lies not just the future of Singapore, but the blueprint for a sustainable world.

In partnership with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and the Public Hygiene Council (PHC), J.O.E Eco Alliance (an affiliate of JOS Furnitures) is pleased to organise a nation-wide competition titled ‘Bulky Waste to Wonder Competition 2023’, where secondary school students will be given the opportunity to rethink the use of bulky waste and showcase their ideas by redesigning and/or repurposing used bulky furniture into functional items.

To kickstart the Competition, an in-person workshop will be conducted by our expert design partners from JLL and Triple Eyelid, to equip participants with knowledge of spatial and furniture design and the know-how to repurpose bulky waste materials. (Note: Light refreshments will be served and there will be limited edition giveaways during the workshop.)

The top 5 finalists will get to have their designs turn to life by our local OEM manufacturing partners E3 and Welead and will be showcased during SG Clean Day on 29 Oct 2023. There will be a final round of judging of the showcased pieces and Prize Presentation Ceremony thereafter. Finalists will also stand the chance to be interviewed by News Media and be featured in an upcoming documentary about repurposing used bulky furniture into functional items.

Earth Overshoot Day 2023 is 2nd August！

We maintain this deficit by liquidating stocks of ecological resources and accumulating waste, primarily carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. By doing so, we are compromising our planet’s future regenerative capacity。
If we move the date of Earth Overshoot Day back 5 days annually, there will be enough regenerable ecological resources to meet our total annual demand before 2050.

We need to make great efforts and take action together!

According to CCRS(Centre for Climate Research Singapore), sea levels around Singapore is projected to rise by one meter by 2100 because of climate change. If extreme high tides and storm surges occur at the same time, they could rise by four to five meters, enough to inundate a third of the country.
In the face of rising sea levels, Singapore will need to build a robust coastal protection infrastructure along its coastline to protect land, buildings and facilities along its coastline.

State of the Global Climate report 2022 released by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) pointed out that due to record levels of heat-trapping greenhouse gases, there have been global changes in land, oceans, and the atmosphere. Despite the cooling effect of La Nina in the past three years, 2015-2022 was still the warmest eight years on record. In 2022, glacier melting and sea level rise reached record levels again, and this trend is expected to continue for thousands of years.

Planting trees is beneficial for creating a shady environment, improving air quality, providing habitats for animals and plants, and storing carbon to combat the impact of climate change.

As Singapore strives to become a "city in nature," we will work even harder and more intensively to incorporate greenery into the city center, allowing the city to coexist better with nature.
