Saya selalu bersemangat saat merawat terutama membantu orang tua. Meskipun saya sudah tahu apa yang harus saya lakukan, tapi saya belum yakin harus memulai dari mana dan bagaimana dalam berkarier di industri ini. Pada awalnya saya bekerja sebagai asisten rumah tangga di Indonesia dan di Singapura antara 2012 sampai 2019, saya juga merawat klien lanjut usia (lansia) saat itu. Saya menyadari bahwa sebagai asisten rumah tangga yang juga merawat pasien lansia, fokus terhadap pasien lansia menjadi terpecah dan pekerjaan rumah tangga juga cukup banyak.
Kemudian salah satu teman saya merekomendasikan pekerjaan sebagai caregiver profesional di Active Global. Saya mengikuti kursus pelatihan Caregiver di Singapura selama hari libur agar saya memenuhi syarat untuk bergabung dengan Active Global sebagai pengasuh professional.
Saya percaya bahwa penting bagi caregiver untuk terus memiliki semangat yang kuat, karena kami tidak hanya membantu lansia dalam aktivitas mereka, tetapi yang lebih penting adalah caregiver membawa perbedaan pada kualitas hidup klien secara keseluruhan. Mendengarkan kisah mereka, melakukan hal-hal yang mereka s**ai dan membuat mereka merasa didengarkan, hal-hal tersebut membutuhkan lebih dari sekadar kerja keras.
Setelah menyelesaikan kursus, saya melamar kerja di Active Global dan ditugaskan untuk merawat seorang nenek berusia 75 tahun yang menderita stroke dan terbaring di tempat tidur. Beliau juga pasien demensia, jadi saya harus merawatnya dengan baik dan memantaunya dengan cermat. Meskipun terbaring di tempat tidur, beliau adalah orang yang sangat ceria dan s**a bercanda. Saya biasanya membacakan buku untuknya dan kami banyak mengobrol untuk mengisi waktu luangnya. Kami merayakan ulang tahunnya lebih awal tahun lalu setelah beliau meninggal. Meskipun itu adalah saat yang sangat menyedihkan, keluarga beliau berterima kasih kepada saya atas perhatian dan upaya yang saya lakukan untuk membuatnya bahagia dan nyaman.
Sekembalinya dari rumah majikan, tim Active Global terus memberi saya pelatihan penyegaran dan juga mengurus akomodasi dan biaya makan saya. Saat ini saya bekerja untuk merawat klien demensia wanita berusia 64 tahun. Saya membantunya dengan aktivitas kehidupan sehari-hari termasuk mandi, kebersihan pribadi, memberi makan, dll.

I was always passionate about caregiving especially helping the elderly. Though I was clear about what I wanted to do, I wasn’t sure where and how to start building a career in this industry. I worked as a helper in Indonesia and in Singapore between 2012 to 2019 caring for elderly clients too. I realised that as a domestic helper the focus cannot completely be on patient care, and household chores were a plenty.
I believe that it is important for caregivers to be passionate as we not only assist elderly in their activities but more importantly the care brings a difference to the client’s quality of life. Listening to them, doing things that they enjoy and making them feel relevant takes more than just hardwork to do.
One of my friends recommended Active Global’s professional live-in caregiver job. I pursued a caregiver training course in Singapore during my off days to make myself eligible to join Active Global as a professional caregiver.
Upon completing the course I applied with Active Global and was deployed to care for a 75-year old grandmother who had suffered a stoke and was bed-bound. She was also a dementia patient, so I had to take good care of her and monitor her closely. Though bed-bound, she was a very lively person and always loved to crack jokes. I used to read to her and engaged in a lot of conversations with her. We celebrated her birthday early last year and she passed on shortly after. Though it was a very sad moment, the elderly client’s family thanked me for the care and effort I took to make her happy and comfortable.
Upon returning from the employer’s house, Active Global’s team continued to give me refresher trainings and also took care of my accomodation and food expenses. I am currently employed to care for a 64 year old female dementia client. I assist her with her Activities of Daily Living including showering, personal hygiene, feeding etc.

When I first came to Singapore as a domestic helper, I was very lucky to work with an understanding and loving family. I was helping with their household chores and taking care of 3 children.

Back home in Myanmar, I worked in the electronic services industry for more than 10 years. However, my heart yearned to be part of healthcare, following my father’s footsteps. My father was a very caring and passionate health officer in Myanmar Army’s medical hospital and I always felt that caring for people was a job that gives utmost satisfaction.

This undying passion brought me to Singapore in 2012 as an FDW. This was a time when caregiving was still not professionally recognised. I worked with a very nice family primarily taking care of an elderly grandmother who was a stroke patient with diabetes. I cared for her and lived with the family also helping with household chores for about 3 years, till the patient passed away.

My 2nd employer was also an elderly lady with skin ailments and early stages of dementia. I assisted her in all her activities of daily living including, showering, feeding, following her for medical check-ups, simple exercise routines etc. I provided quality care for her and performed all my duties with sincerity and effort which the family appreciated very much. After 5 long years of caring for her, the patient passed on this year. During these 5 years, I had already heard about Active Global’s professional Live-in Caregiver jobs, but I was not confident of approaching them.

Every now and then, I would go into Active Global’s website and check out the information, but I was not sure if I would qualify especially because I did not have a certificate. During COVID I had the time to re-think and finally I reached out to Active Global. To my surprise they guided me on how I could attend training at Active Global Caregiver Academy and obtain a certificate upon completion and passing assessments. It was a very intense and professionally conducted course, with both theory and hands-on modules.

During this period Active Global took care of my food and accommodation arrangements and upon completion of the course, I have also recently been deployed to care for a male dementia patient. I feel a sense of pride that I am a professional caregiver now and I am glad that I made the right choice during this very challenging period.
