With school starting next week this is your friendly reminder that the only spot in the entire Wylie, Jim Ned, Merkel, and Trent school districts you could safely and legally pass a stopped school bus would be on US 83/84 and Interstate 20, and ONLY if you're on the opposite side of the divided highway! Remember folks, these are all our kids on these buses, treat them accordingly.

Many folks have asked what we do when there’s severe weather threatening our area. If our stations look like they could be directly impacted, we send our ambulances throughout the county, out of harm’s way. We closely monitor local weather information to make sure that the crews on duty and as many ambulances as possible are moved to safety so we can respond in the event of widespread destruction.

The citizens of rural Taylor County got a huge WIN today! The Commissioners Court voted 4 to 1 in favor of selecting Taylor County EMS to continue providing EMS in rural Taylor County for the next five years with THREE full-time staffed ambulances!!

Words cannot express the deepest love and appreciation we have for OUR communities that came out strong to support us. Taylor County residents, first responders, and so many others took time out of their very busy lives to make phone calls, write letters, share information, show up to meetings, and speak publicly in support of our organization and we are forever thankful!

A special thank you to our citizen Board of Directors - Joey Light, Rochelle Johnson, and Dr. Victor Hudman - for championing and advocating our vision of superior emergency medical services in rural Taylor County.

Finally, thank you to the members of the Commissioner's Court, County Judge Phil Crowley, Pct. 1 Commissioner Randy Williams, Pct. 2 Commissioner Kyle Kendrick, and Pct. 3 Commissioner Brad Birchum, that voted in favor of elevating the level of emergency medical services that your constituents depend on and for entrusting our organization to continue being the provider of those services as we have over the past 34 years!

We heard the phrase "don't let us down" a couple of times this morning after the vote. We promise with everything we have that we will continue working tirelessly to make sure that never happens. So to OUR communities, exciting things are coming! Between now and September 30th we will be transitioning from ONE full-time staffed ambulance to THREE on October 1st!! Our plan is to strategically station ambulances in the communities of Merkel, Caps, and Tuscola for the best geographic coverage of rural Taylor County's nearly 800 square miles. We are incredibly blessed and can't wait to share this journey with you! Thank you again for your trust and support!!

Next Tuesday 4/23 at 9am, Taylor County Commissioners Court will be deciding who will provide ambulance service to rural Taylor County. We cannot tell you how much we appreciate all of your support by coming to the last meeting and contacting members of the Commissioner's Court.

You're invited to join us again on Tuesday to show support for YOUR local community based non-profit ambulance service!

For more information on this topic, we've published a Letter to Residents on our website, www.taylorcountyems.org/letter-to-residents

Thank you all again for your continuing support of keeping LOCAL EMS!

Hoppy EASTER from all of us at Taylor County EMS!

03/26/2024

Taylor County Commissioners Court took no action today regarding contract award. While the proposal MetroCare/AMR submitted was scored higher for value, Commissioners Randy Williams and Kyle Kendrick indicated that there were more questions raised that needed to be answered before they make a decision. It is anticipated that these questions will be answered before Commissioners Court on April 23rd and will likely be on the agenda again for April 23rd.

We urge all of our supporters to please reach out to your elected officials and let them hear your voice! Just because a company bids the lowest price does not make them the best fit for OUR communities! We are so appreciative and thankful for those that have already contacted their officials and came to the meeting today! We have another month to let these guys know OUR communities want a locally owned and operated non-profit ambulance service that's been here for 34 years!

Earlier this year, the Taylor County Commissioner’s Court solicited bids for ambulance service from outside agencies. Those bids, to include ours, have been reviewed and the Taylor County Commissioner’s Court will be deciding who will continue to provide ambulance service to rural Taylor County outside the city limits of Abilene this coming Tuesday, March 26th at 9am in Commissioners Court (Taylor County Plaza, 400 Oak Street, 3rd Floor). This includes the areas of Trent, Merkel, Tye, View, Caps, Elm Valley, Moro, Bradshaw, Shep, Tuscola, Lawn, Ovalo, Buffalo Gap, and Potosi.

For over 34 years, Taylor County EMS has been providing emergency medical services to rural Taylor County as a non-profit community based ambulance service and it is our desire to continue providing these critical services to OUR communities!

It is our understanding that large, national/global, for-profit corporations have expressed a desire to expand their footprint into rural Taylor County. These corporations are not locally owned and are more vested in their shareholders than in the communities they serve. For over three decades, we have been supporting your communities, your little league teams, your bands, your athletic programs, your volunteer fire departments, in every way that we could - and we want to continue doing so because your communities are OUR communities! 52% of our staff live in these rural communities that we serve and of those, 70% also serve on your local volunteer fire departments. Now, we come to you to ask for your support by telling our elected officials on Tuesday that you want Taylor County EMS to continue providing emergency medical care in your communities.

If selected, we anticipate being able to have 2-3 full-time staffed ambulances strategically placed throughout rural Taylor County in the communities of Merkel, Tuscola, and Caps which will improve 911 response times and patient outcomes in those that are the most critically ill or injured. Currently this is being done with one full-time staffed ambulance and one on-call ambulance. County officials have finally recognized the need to expand ambulance service throughout the county and are making progress toward that goal. But that goal is not achieved by increasing the number of ambulances, only for them to be responding out of Abilene like in years past.

So join us at the meeting on Tuesday morning and make your voice heard during public comment or reach out to your elected county commissioner. If you have questions, feel free to send us a message!

Thank you always for your support! ❤️

Prayers are answered in so many different ways! Our Panhandle Response Team woke up to some much needed precipitation falling over the fire areas, giving favorable conditions to put better containment on these fires.

Keep the Panhandle in your prayers as this precipitation period will be short with temperatures and winds picking back up this weekend!

Taylor County EMS has one ambulance and one Medical Unit Leader deployed to the Panhandle as part of Texas Emergency Medical Task Force Wildland Fire Support. While many of these communities have suffered catastrophic devastation, they are resilient and we are honored to be working along side them! Say a prayer for these communities and their first responders trying to get a handle on it.
