A peak inside the classroom during the morning work cycle. π "The first essential for a child's development is concentration. The child who concentrates is immensely happy." Dr. Maria Montessori

Our Fall Carrot Harvest! π₯ "Mother Nature grew our seeds into carrots.. good job, Earth!" π§‘π
Fall Mud Kitchen Fun! I love witnessing the children incorporate and apply math skills. The Volcano cake had "3 seashells water" and "4 shovels dirt." Ms. Krssna loved it! π
Snuggling up. On a comfy pillow, with a good book, in a quiet corner.. sometimes, that is all it takes to find peace. π cute toes are an unexpected bonus! π£
We are all on a journey toward finding peace. Some, peace with others. Some, peace with in. π
Teach a child Magic Eraser removes crayon from the wall very easily, and they color on everything so they can clean. π¬π€£π
Morning Word Work! Writing to learn to read.. I love this strategy! Build first, then blend!
Question of the day? What are these little green spots? Childrens' thoughts: acorns, berries, baby leaves, eggs, seeds... other ideas? Who knows?!
"The human hand, so delicate and so complicated, not only allows the mind to reveal itself but it enables the whole being to enter into special relationships with its environment... man 'takes possession of his environment with his hands.' His hands, under the guidance of his intellect transform this environment and thus enable him to fulfill his mission in the world."
βMaria Montessori, The Discovery of the Child
Photo: Children freely creating interpretations of creatures coming into existence. Materials: Metal insets, colored pencils, glue, scissors. Text: Amazing Evolution
Pancake/crepe recipe creation and food design (delicious! π) Drawing and writing about living vs non living, learning the 50 states... so interesting to observe what the children decide upon as work choices!
Pumpkin Jack, before we move on to studying leaves. Lots of work choices! π Reading to the younger children and teaching them about problem and solution in a story. Noticing pumpkins sprout in the worm bin. Transferring sprout to outside. Checking on our rotting pumpkins to see which type the squirrel like best! Only the one with peanut butter grew mold π²
October photo bombing!
Our school visited Hudson's Concerts for Kids performance of Peter and the Wolf! The children loved learning about how sounds can tell a story, sounds can express emotion, and how we can communicate without using words! πΊπ»

Welcome to Blooming Minds Montessori Microschool! My name is Debbie, pictured with my wild-eyed daughter, on Homeschool Day at Kingsway. I am a Traditionally and Montessori Certified teacher with over ten years experience serving children and families. My true passion in life is gifting children with a life-long love of learning as well as a deep understanding of academic concepts. I tend to refer to Blooming Minds as a "Montessori Unschool." You are equally as likely to find us outside hunting for "wooly bears" and using their appearance to make predictions about Winter weather, as you are to find us working peacefully in our carefully prepared, authentic Montessori classroom. Please reach out to schedule a classroom visit, I would love to meet you and your little ones!
One year's progress with the metal insets, both pieces of work created by the same child. π You can visibly see her movement from concrete to abstraction, as well as her fine motor skills developing, giving her a stronger pencil grip. The complete set of metal insets include all of the hand movements needed to write each letter of the alphabet. The benefits are endless! Play truly is the work of the child!
Snack and Cleaning Station is finally built! Just need odds and ends for it to be "officially" complete! My π is filled with joy, witnessing the children work independently.
"Only practical work and experience lead the young to maturity." Dr. Montessori
