Alameda Adult School

Over the next several weeks we'll be highlighting students graduating from our schools this year.

First up: Tara Shelton, who is graduating from the Alameda Adult School next Monday. Tara completed all of her GED exams except for math. “I was so embarrassed about the whole thing,” she says. ”But AAS took me in with open arms, and I was finally able to complete the math exam, too.”

Tara has been a paraprofessional at Edison Elementary for ten years. She will be getting her AA through community colleges this week, too, and is already enrolled at National University's BA program. Her goal is to become a teacher.

“I'm so grateful for the Adult School's help," she says. "I'm much more confident in myself now." Tara's so confident, in fact, she'll be a featured speaker at the AAS commencement ceremony!

Teacher Solveiga started in AUSD when her daughter was in Kindergarten in 1974, and she is still going strong teaching ESL at Alameda Adult School today, 50 years later. She is one of a kind!

National Labs' second Alameda COVID-19 testing site - a drive-through station that will provide PCR tests - is now open in the Lum Elementary School parking lot.

This testing site is open to *all community members* Monday-Saturday, 9 am to 5 pm.

AUSD's Summer Meals Program starts June 23 and will once again serve meals to all kids and teens 18 years and younger. No application or ID needed!

June 2nd, 2022- We celebrated 3 graduating years! 2020, 2021, and 2022. Not all of our graduates could make it, but we're glad to have been able to give ALL our students a chance to cross the stage as it is truly an outstanding accomplishment that deserves to be acknowledged.
