“All little children, but one, grow up.” -from Peter Pan
This had always been a very dear musical/story for me, even as a child.
Today, it hit me…all my children are growing up, except one.
I was going through old photos of the girls together with their sister. They keep growing, and Ashleigh stays forever young, forever innocent.
No new photos. No new adventures. No new “core memories.”
She would have been 17 today. She would have been an entering senior. We would have been taking senior photos, planning a senior trip…possibly planning for colleges, possibly a young love. So many elements that I think about daily, all these years later.
I miss her every day. Her sisters miss her (though they never had the honor of knowing her on this earth).
Ashleigh has taught me to take nothing for granted. Each day I have with my children, husband, friends, patients, is a GIFT. We are all on borrowed time and tomorrow is not promised.

Doomsday Prepping Journal entry 473: The yield from planting 6 kidney bean seeds was immense! I got “double yields”…meaning from 6 plants, I yielded 12 beans. This was over a 3 month period, using 2 buckets.
So…if you take the square root of “I suck at this,” and multiply by “this was a lot of effort just to make new beans to turn around and plant again,” the result is: “I’m having a good time despite the fact my family will starve in a famine!” 🤣🌱🤣

I thought I could harvest a couple of carrots for the stew….I was wrong! 🤣🤣

Does your doctor have hobbies? This one does!
I have been I to gardening for about 1.5yrs now. Admittedly, I have “gardening ADD,” in that, I go from tomato obsessed to berry bonkers, and so on.
Currently, I am into Aloe.
My kids got a bit burned earlier in the summer and I cruised to the store to get some aloe. SO EXPENSIVE! Not to mention, it had coloring and other chemicals in it, including ALCOHOL! (Way to make a burn feel better!) 🤦♀️
So I though to myself, “Self…why can’t you grow an endless supply of aloe, so you don’t have to buy it and put those chemicals on our delicate skin?”
So that’s what I’m doin’!

My Story
Jacquelyn Cortez-Sammons, DO, is a board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist. She has practiced in Orange County for more than a decade and serves patients at Transformation Health & Wellness in Anaheim, California. Educated in Southern California, Dr. Cortez-Sammons completed her undergraduate degree at California State University, Fullerton. She earned a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, followed by an internship at the University of California, Los Angeles. She finished residency training at the University of California, San Diego, before returning to Orange County to practice. As a provider, Dr. Cortez-Sammons brings an outside-the-box, problem-solving approach to health and wellness, along with a unique mindset. She views the human body as a dynamic unit of function. She enjoys the challenges presented by patients whose health needs call for more than a cookie-cutter solution and aims to provide each of her patients with a personalized plan of integrative care. With a passion for educating patients about their bodies, Dr. Cortez-Sammons has a refreshing perspective that optimizes health outcomes for each patient who walks through the door at Transformation Health & Wellness. Her extensive training enables her to hone in on the root cause of an ailment to find the appropriate remedy. As a practitioner, Dr. Cortez-Sammons has studied a multitude of paths of healing. Dr. Cortez-Sammons sees the role of a physician as more of a facilitator of healing, rather than a mere administrator of medicine. Although Dr. Cortez-Sammons has earned numerous credentials in traditional western medicine, she also performs osteopathic manipulations and appreciates the role of nutrition, exercise, and herbal or mineral supplements in health and wellness. She draws on her extensive training in traditional and integrative medicine to help her patients achieve optimal health.
