REFUTATION & CONFIRMATION šŸ“ | Students in Ms. Ortizā€™s Refutation Confirmation Class hosted their parents for a Composition Cafe to present their recent essays and practice public speaking skills in an intimate setting.

What is Refutation & Confirmarion?

The Refutation & Confirmation exercises are similar to an argumentative essay in modern composition theory, although the form of the Refutation & Confirmation exercise comes to us from Aphthonius of Antioch.Ā The students are learning how to structure their thought, and thus their communication process, when given the task of arguing for or against an idea, thought, chain of events, method, or story. The categories of development (or paragraphs) that make up these essays are essential elements in the rhetorical process that must become second nature in the mental processes of our students.

ANNE OF GREEN GABLES TEA šŸ«–| ā€œKindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. Itā€™s splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.ā€ -Anne Shirley

Ms Ortizā€™s Literature D students enjoyed an afternoon tea to commemorate their book study of Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery. A tea, no matter how formal it pretends to be, is friendly and inviting. Students learned the proper etiquette of tea service and the typical variety of sandwiches, scones, and tea cakes prepared for guests to enjoy. How do you take your tea?

LIFE SCIENCE | Cells are the most basic living unit of structure and function in organisms and yet their complexity compels one to ponder the intelligence and creativity of our Creator. This year in Novare Life Science, HLS students are learning about the building blocks of life from the tiniest atom to the largest life form on Earth. In order to better understand the organelles that make up both plant and animal cells, the students decorated a cake with candies that simulated each organelle in shape, texture, and size. They learned the differences between plant and animal cells and were able to enjoy some delicious cake at the end. Since the human body is made of trillions of cells, this exercise ought to leave anyone in awe and wonder at what God has done for us!

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. Psalm 139:13-14
