DMOS Orthopaedic Centers is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Khushdeep (Sunny) Vig, a board-eligible orthopedic trauma surgeon. Originally from Jackson, Mississippi, he completed his medical education at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland. He then completed his orthopedic surgical residency at Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY and his Orthopaedic Traumatology Fellowship at University of Louisville in Louisville, KY.

Throughout his training, he completed over 2,000 cases and is excited to bring his expertise to the greater Iowa region. His specialties include acute direct anterior total hip arthroplasty, complex malunion nonunion repair, deformity correction, computer navigated pelvis and acetabular surgery, and acute direct anterior total hip arthroplasty.

When it comes to his practice, Dr. Vig’s philosophy revolves around providing the same level of care and compassion that he would give to his own family. His goal is to encourage function living for his patients while preventing further debilitation. He credits his global training experiences with teaching him how to treat patients holistically in the face of adversity and health challenges.

Outside of DMOS, Dr. Vig enjoys hunting, fishing, going to the gym and spending time with his wife. He is an avid traveler and has lived and worked in destinations such as India, Thailand, Ireland, Morocco, Hawaii, Spain, Cambodia and Vietnam.

DMOS Orthopaedic Centers is pleased to announce the arrival of Dr. Christopher Dickinson. He is a board-eligible hip and knee orthopedic surgeon and a Des Moines native. He completed his residency at Michigan State and his fellowship in Adult Reconstruction and Hip & Knee Replacement at Indiana University.

When it comes to his practice, Dr. Dickinson’s goal is to restore function and mobility for his patients. He strives to educate his patients in all aspects of their care so that together, they can formulate a customized treatment plan that allows them to return to and maintain their active lifestyle. For him, one of the most rewarding aspects of his work is developing long-lasting relationships with his patients and getting them back to the activities they love.

Both Dr. Dickinson and his wife are excited to return to Des Moines with their three daughters. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, spending time outdoors, traveling and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Get to know Dr. Zachary Ries with the DMOS Spine Center!

Dr. Ries completed his orthopedic residency at the University of Iowa and went on to the Norton Leatherman Spine Center in Louisville, Kentucky for an Orthopedic and Neurosurgical Spine Surgery Fellowship. As a physician at DMOS Orthopaedic Centers, he specializes in the treatment of spinal injuries and disorders including minimally invasive spine surgery, spinal navigation surgery, lumbar discectomy, anterior lumbar, and anterior and posterior cervical spine surgery. He enjoys helping patients return to the activities they love by providing effective and safe techniques tailored to each individual's goals and lifestyle.

DMOS Orthopaedic Centers is pleased to announce the arrival of board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Brian Handal, DO to the DMOS Spine Center in West Des Moines. Dr. Handal recently relocated to the Des Moines area where he looks forward to bringing his profound commitment to providing top-tier spine care to each of his patients. Dr. Handal specializes in a variety of procedures including cervical and lumbar disc arthroplasty, ultra-minimally invasive endoscopic spine surgery and other approaches that offer patients the best outcomes. He also has extensive experience in workers’ compensation, assisting with things like attorney conferences, causations and impairment ratings related to the treatment and return to work process of injured workers.

Dr. Handal is originally from Houston, TX and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Molecular Genetics from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. From there, he earned his Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from Des Moines University and completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at Kettering Health in Dayton, OH. Most recently, Dr. Handal completed his fellowship in Orthopedic Surgery of the Spine at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa, FL.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Handal enjoys biking, hitting the gym, and traveling. He also has a background as a professional violinist and has performed at Carnegie Hall. Dr. Handal shared that both orthopedics and performing as a violinist requires discipline, attention to detail, patience and perseverance. He credits much of these skills to enhancing his ability to provide compassionate and personalized care to his patients. His approach to care is to treat every patient as if they were family, giving them the highest standards of care and support while helping them to regain mobility, alleviate pain and restore quality of life.

Get to know Dr. Brock Reiter, MD. Dr. Reiter is a Board Certified Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeon that sees patients in Ankeny and West Des Moines.

Dr. Brock Reiter is a La Porte City, Iowa native who attended Iowa State University for his undergraduate degree and then traveled to Chicago Medical School to complete his graduate degree. His residency and fellowship were both in Indianapolis at Indiana University and the Indiana Hand to Shoulder Center respectively.

Dr. Reiter specializes in shoulder arthroscopy and arthroplasty, elbow arthroscopy, nerve disorders including compressive neuropathies (carpal or cubital tunnel syndrome) and traumatic nerve injuries, and the treatment of acute and chronic injuries including complex reconstructive hand, wrist, and elbow surgeries.

An avid cyclist, Dr. Reiter once rode his bike from San Francisco to Washington DC (over 4,000 miles!) as part of a charity team to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.

Get to know Urbandale native Dr. Chris Nelson. Dr. Nelson joined DMOS Orthopaedic Centers in 2010. Dr. Nelson’s practice focuses on the areas of hip and knee surgeries. He is one of the only orthopedic surgeons in Iowa with fellowship level training in both hip replacement and hip arthroscopy. In addition, Dr. Nelson has a vast knowledge of both complex and simple joint replacements and revision joint replacements.

Outside of his practice, Dr. Nelson enjoys supporting local sporting events, which includes providing sideline orthopedic coverage for the Des Moines Bucs Hockey team and other local organizations. He also enjoys golf, snow sports, and above all spending time with his family.

Get to know our Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Urbandale native Dr. Ian Lin. Dr. Lin joined DMOS Orthopaedic Centers in 1997 after completing his education at Grinnell College and the University of Iowa Medical School.

Dr. Lin sees patients with a wide variety of conditions ranging from total joint replacements to hand procedures. He has built his extensive practice based out of the DMOS Des Moines location and enjoys working with a wide variety of patients.

Outside of running his practice, Dr. Lin coaches spring and fall baseball for a local high school. He also enjoys spending his time in active outdoor pursuits such as kayaking, fishing, golfing, and above all – spending time with his wife and five children.
