Our seniors kicked off their first field trip by exploring Coldwater Spring and the Big Rivers Regional Trail Overlook, delving into land management, stakeholder collaboration, and efforts to restore traditional ways and honor the rich Indigenous history of the area.

Kicking off the school year with our juniors and seniors bonding over team-building activities and making the most of the great outdoors! Here's to a year of learning, growth, and plenty of time in nature!

A fantastic end to the school year! Juniors tackled the Eco-Challenge, followed by a fun picnic and games. Thanks, SES students for a great year—can’t wait to welcome new juniors and celebrate the Class of 2025!

SES juniors were able to wow 4th graders from Pinewood, Greenleaf, and Oak Ridge with exciting lessons on forests and pond ecosystems!

Last night's graduation was filled with unforgettable memories, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for everyone involved!

Seniors are in the house for graduation rehearsal and senior awards! We can't wait to celebrate their achievements at the commencement ceremony tonight! 🎓

As senior year winds down, our seniors shared their Environmental Ethics, reflecting on key sustainability issues inspired by their past learnings and guided by their moral principles, and how they plan for a sustainable future with responsibility and leadership.

Congratulations to Leo Klement for being recognized as a Borlaug Scholar at the U of M with the MN Youth Institute! This program empowers students to tackle global food insecurity through research, discussions, and opportunities for scholarships, internships, and representation at international events.

Rain and mud won't stop our three field study groups! They're exploring the Boundary Waters, Lake Superior Hiking Trail, and the Namekagon River in northern Wisconsin!

Spring Intensive Theme is in full swing! One of the special things about an SES education is the opportunity to take Intensive Theme Courses once each trimester. These courses focus on unique topics and provide exciting experiences for our SES students. For 25 years SES students have been engaging in things like Social Action, Marine Biology, Model United Nations, Creative Writing, Skiing, and even traveling the world. It is Intensive Theme Courses that make that possible. Here are some early photos highlighting some of our great intensive theme courses this trimester!

Our SES Environmental Justice class toured an Urban Roots farm in East Saint Paul, learning about sustainable agriculture and helping with various tasks. They’re now bringing those skills back to SES to plant a Three Sisters garden next to the school with corn, beans, and squash growing together!

You know it's the homestretch of the school year when these get delivered!

Prom 2024 was an unforgettable blast! ✨

Craig Angrimson, former District 196 School Board member and tradesman, inspired over 50 SES juniors and seniors, shedding light on career opportunities in the trades! 🛠️

SES students had a blast exploring summer and beyond opportunities with eight fantastic organizations, filling out job apps, volunteering inquiries, and scheduling college visits at the "Making Plans for Summer and Beyond" event!

SES Game Night was a blast, uniting current and future students for yard games, nature walks, animal interactions, raffles, and grilling - a perfect way to end the school year and gear up for the next! 🌳🍔

Outdoor Adventures and Learning had a blast exploring the fascinating natural habitats of vernal pools, teeming with diverse life including plants, amphibians, and microinvertebrates, while collecting data and creating immersive sound maps of the area! 🌿🎶🐸

While juniors tackled the ACT, seniors continued the Sustainability Day tradition, learning to use public transportation in groups to get to the University of Minnesota for a campus sustainability study. This is part of a larger unit where students explore urban, suburban, and small-town areas to assess sustainability!
