Fred Hampton needs a foster family! Next week, Fred is scheduled to have surgery to repair his CCL (a ligament in his knee). This is a life-changing surgery for Fred but won't be possible unless he has a foster home lined up where he can rest and recover. The ideal foster home will have no stairs in and out of the house, so that he can go outside to go to the bathroom. Stairs inside are ok as long as he stays on the ground level. If you are interested in fostering Fred, email our foster coordinator at [email protected]!

More info about Fred: he's a big guy at 120lbs, likes other dogs, and his previous family reported that he did well with kids and cats. He can be a little shy with new people but is very affectionate and fun once he knows you!

With school back in session, we just wanted to thank our Summer Camp attendees for joining us this summer and becoming young animal advocates! We had more than 120 kids join us for camp, and we hope to see many of them next year (as well as lots of new faces, of course). We hope our campers had as much as we did this summer!

Fiona is such a gentle, loving dog...everyone who meets her falls in love! She loves making new friends and can usually be found with a toy in her mouth, offering it up as a greeting (and the hope that you'll play with her). Her favorite toy is a tennis ball, and will happily play fetch with you as long as you'd like. When playtime is over, Fiona is ready to curl up on her bed for a snuggle or a nap. You can meet Fiona at the shelter today from 12-7pm!

This little bird is not one we usually see here at AWLA's Wildlife Resource Center - this is a sora! Soras are also sometimes known as meadow chickens or Carolina rails. They not commonly seen in this area other than during their yearly migration. Unfortunately, this little one sustained a broken wing somewhere along its migration journey and needed our help. It will soon be on its way to a licensed rehabber who will care for it until it can be released back into the wild!
