501c4, Dedicated to expanding Black voter engagement and increasing progressive power. Effective voting allows a community to determine its own destiny.
Black Voters Matter goal is to increase power in marginalized, predominantly Black communities. We agree with the words of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he said, “Power at its best is love implementing the demands of justice, and justice at its best is power correcting everything that stands against love.”
We seek to achieve our goals with the following 5 core beliefs in mind:

“The whole ‘Leave It to Beaver’ family structure has never been the family structure for many communities.” – LaTosha Brown, co-founder of Black Voters Matter
The nuclear family is just one part of America’s story. As families evolve, our policies must too! Let’s fight for policies that uplift every family structure and reflect ALL of us!

🚌Thank you, Alabama! The final day of our Bus Tour was a powerful demonstration of community engagement and voter empowerment. Yesterday, our tour left a mark on the community. By meeting people where they are, providing tangible support, and uplifting the collective voice of Black voters, the tour inspired a renewed sense of purpose and determination.
The day began with a Church Voter Engagement initiative at All Nations Church and Rock City Church, in partnership with Hipped Interests. Combining an engaging atmosphere with critical resources for community members to register to vote and check their voter status.
The energy carried into the afternoon as the team shifted focus to canvassing within the local housing authority. Going door-to-door, they shed light on the importance of voting while offering messages of hope and unity. These personal connections helped break down barriers and emphasized that every voice matters in the democratic process.
The day concluded with a Sunday Kick Back event, hosted in partnership with the NAACP Birmingham and SCLC Birmingham. Food trucks provided by the partners ensured attendees were well-fed while organizers led discussions about the power of the Black vote and the importance of community action.

🚨 Please check your sources: Social media has become a breeding ground for misinformation. Algorithms amplify sensational content, and echo chambers make lies seem true. Misinformation can go viral in hours, spreading farther than facts.
We must fight back against this threat. Fact-checkers, platforms, and individuals all have a role to play. Seek truth, question sources, and don't share misinformation. Boost voices that bring facts and light - not lies.
Pennsylvania, we're in your house! Bus 2 is here to mobilize our community, one conversation at a time. Canvassing, phone banking - we're doing it all. Because when Black voters turn out, we win. Pennsylvania, you're more than just a swing state - you're a tipping point for progress. Let's claim our power and shape the future!

The energy continued at the Boys and Girls Club in Eufaula, where the team canvassed and engaged with community members. The response has been overwhelming as the tour has now hit 9 states this month. Join us today at our upcoming stops: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/wefightback/

🚌Bus 1 is back on the ground: We're taking action in Alabama! Today, we kicked off our efforts with the Stop the Violence Walk, sparking crucial community conversations. We're proud to partner with the City of Montgomery Stop the Violence, Student Canvass (H.U.B.), and the ACLU of Alabama.
In 2021, gun violence took the lives of 1,315 Alabamians, with Black residents affected at rates far higher than their white counterparts. The truth is, it's the result of systemic inequities and policies that have long neglected the safety and well-being of Black people.
We're fighting back by raising awareness about gun violence and the importance of voter education in Alabama. This weekend, we're hitting the road for a statewide tour focused on voter engagement, education, community caravans, and canvassing. Join the movement: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/wefightback/
That’s a wrap, Maryland! Our two-day tour with Life After Release and the Expand The Ballot Expand The Vote Coalition has been amazing. We kicked things off in PG County, where we saw a fantastic turnout of people ready to uplift their communities and get involved in voting.
At the Robert C. Marshall Rec Center in Baltimore, our GOTV Rally was a highlight. Formerly incarcerated individuals shared their powerful stories of reclaiming their voting rights. Their resilience inspired us all and highlighted the importance of staying engaged.
Maryland, don’t forget: Early voting starts October 24, and you can request a mail-in ballot in person until November 5 by 8 PM. Your vote matters, and every election shapes our future.
A big thank you to everyone who helped make this tour a success. Next stop for Bus 2? Pennsylvania! 🚌
Black voters hold the power to shape the future of our communities and our country. Through our collective voice and our votes, we can demand justice, equality, and the policies that benefit our lives. Let's harness this power and show the world what it means when Black people organize, mobilize, and turn out to the polls. It’s not about a party or a particular candidate - it’s about US.

Texas is taking a terrifying step by using the courts to go after those seeking abortions outside its borders. With safe, legal options already scarce, it's crucial that we fight back against leaders who are weaponizing the system to control women's reproductive choices. This isn’t about saving babies; it’s about seizing control.

We know you were wondering - Hurricane Francine slowed us down a bit in Louisiana, but we're fueled up and back on the road, ready to mobilize the power of Black voters across Alabama!
Alabama, your history runs deep. From the courage of the Montgomery Bus Boycott to the marches across Edmund Pettus Bridge, this state plays an important role for the fight for justice and equality. Now, it's our turn to make our mark.
Join us for our upcoming stops TOMORROW: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/wefightback/
Good morning from Maryland! Yesterday's event was powerful with our partners at Life After Release and Expand The Ballot. We came together with one goal: to amplify the voices of formerly incarcerated individuals in the face of voter suppression.
The criminal injustice system has long been a weapon of oppression, but we're fighting back. This partnership is an important step in our journey to build an unstoppable force of formerly incarcerated voters and to tear down the walls of felony disenfranchisement and mass incarceration.
After incarceration, it's important to verify your legal status to understand any outstanding obligations, restrictions, or rights you may have lost. This includes probation or parole requirements, fines or restitution, and whether you've lost voting rights. Knowing your status helps you avoid unintentional violations that could lead to further legal consequences.
Be sure to join Bus 2 today as we continue this important work!

For years, we've stood with hundreds of grassroots organizations in North Carolina, empowering Black voters and tackling the issues that matter most: voting rights, healthcare, education, and the economy. This isn't just about any battleground – it's about our communities, our future. Black voters are the DECIDING FACTOR.
That's why we're dedicated to being on the ground 365, knocking on every door, making sure our communities have the resources they need. The stakes have never been higher. Join our movement: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/wefightback/
“This case is a way to fight back against an abuse of power and serves as an example of accountability, quite frankly, to other rogue governors and activist courts that want to upend precedent instead of moving this country forward.” –April Albright, National Legal Director of Black Voters Matter
When maps are drawn to silence our voices, our democracy suffers. Florida's redistricting is a clear example of voter suppression in action. We won't stop fighting for fair maps that truly represent Black voters in the Sunshine State.

That's all folks for Bus 2 in Virginia! We wrapped up an epic day at Virginia Union University's BVM Block Party and Voter Fair. We joined campus leaders to assist students with voter registration, apply for absentee ballots, and understand their rights.

At this point, gun safety shouldn't be up for debate. Montgomery’s new ordinance is a step in the right direction. It shows their leaders actually care about keeping their citizens safe. It’s time to put people’s lives above politics and fight for laws that protect our communities.
Mayor of Alabama's capital becomes latest to try to limit GOP 'permitless carry' law The mayor of Alabama’s state capital has signed a local ordinance into law requiring anyone carrying a concealed firearm to also carry a photo ID.
“This isn’t about participation, it’s about power.”
Listen as our co-founder LaTosha Brown exposes the harsh reality of voter suppression. From targeting the elderly and disabled to purging voter rolls, these tactics aim to silence our voices and keep us away from the polls. We must keep fighting back and show them the potential of our power! Keep an eye on your voter status and sound the alarm if you see anything suspicious!

🚌From North Carolina to Virginia! Bus 2 hit the ground running yesterday at Norfolk State and Virginia State University! Our team is fired up and ready to mobilize. We're rolling into college campuses, sparking crucial conversations with students about the issues that matter most. We’re also having students complete surveys about their thoughts on the political process.
From voting rights to education reform, we're listening to their voices and empowering them to use their power at the polls.
The future is in their hands, and we're here to make sure they know just how much their votes can shape it. Stay tuned as we travel across the state, registering voters and building a movement that can't be ignored.
This is what grassroots power looks like - and we're just getting started! Join us: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/wefightback/
Last night we witnessed a good, old-fashioned @$$ whooping!
Kamala Harris displayed strength and compassion in the face of chaos and division. She demonstrated once again that Black women know how to handle a bully like Trump.
In contrast, Trump spewed lies and ramblings that showed us that he is unhinged and unfit to lead.
But last night was not just about personality differences. The policy agendas of Harris and Trump are in stark opposition. Donald Trump has no plan to address the growing concerns of Black voters. In fact, his tariff “plan” would raise taxes on Black households, his “concept of a plan” to dismantle Obamacare would end affordable healthcare, and his attacks on DEI and affirmative action threaten Black economic well-being. Black voters deserve more from government than racist policies that have historically denied us access to wealth and opportunity in this country.

This lawsuit is yet another blatant attempt to suppress the vote in Texas. These efforts are unfairly targeting voter registration efforts that ensure every voice is counted. Reaching out to unregistered voters is crucial to fostering a true democracy with diverse perspectives.

Texas Republican attorney general sues over voter registration efforts in Democrat strongholds Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton has sued two of the state’s largest counties to block efforts to register voters ahead of the November general election.
“Nobody asks a white man that question. What she is doing is responding to, ‘I am not going to be boxed in a way that I have to defend my humanity and my identity by anybody.’ That is a powerful stance. She has decided she is not going to feed into the same racist, sexist tropes that seek to dehumanize us to make us justify our very being on this Earth.” – LaTosha Brown, cofounder of Black Voters Matter

Harris sidesteps the spotlight when it comes to her identity The vice president makes her case on identity implicit. Black women are OK with that.
A 6-week abortion ban in Florida isn’t about protection–it’s about control. Women’s right to choose is under attack, and we must fight back. It’s time to rise up, demand expanded abortion access, and restore the rights stolen with the fall of Roe v. Wade.
Florida health agency campaigns against abortion-rights ballot measure It is the latest example of Florida Republicans using the mechanics of government to try to styme the initiative.
And we're back! Day 1 of our Louisiana Bus Tour was a powerful one! Bus 1 rolled into the University of Louisiana Lafayette, where we teamed up with the Black Male Leadership Association. Together, we registered a flood of FIRST-TIME VOTERS and made sure everyone's status was in check.
But we didn't stop there. We ended the day with our partners at the Vermilion Parish NAACP and A New Chapter PUSH, hitting the community to ensure local voices won't be silenced by unjust voter roll purges. Thousands of Louisiana voters have been wrongly marked "inactive" - but we're fighting back!
The energy is building. The movement is growing. And tonight, it all comes together at our PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE WATCH PARTY. Join us to break down what's at stake and how we can use our collective power to shape the future: https://blackvotersmatterfund.org/upcoming-tours/
🚨 Some politicians want to divide us—fueling fear and conflict to grab power. But we know better.
For Black communities, real change comes from unity and strength. We must stand together, push for our collective power, and shape our own destinies. Our votes are our voices, and they’re crucial in determining our future.
We’re choosing our freedoms, our futures, and a better life. Join us and let’s build the change we want to see. ✊🏾
