🎓 Yesterday, we had the honor of celebrating our exceptional graduating seniors from the Department of Chemistry at our annual chemistry banquet. We are thrilled to announce that two of our outstanding students, Amani Talbert and Neal Hamilton, received prestigious awards for their academic and research achievements. Amani was awarded the Yang Award, and Neal received the newly established Dr. Morris Waugh Excellence Award.

Our faculty and staff shared inspiring words, encouraging our students as they embark on their next journey as Morehouse Men. We are immensely proud of their accomplishments and look forward to seeing the remarkable impact they will make in the world.

This Fall 2023 semester, the Morehouse College - Department of Chemistry kicked off a Professional Development Series.

Many thanks to WrightNow Solutions, CEO Valarie W. Mackey, for curating and moderating the Strategic Networking Session with Industry Professionals. Students had the opportunity to interact with a cross disciplinary panel which included an industrial engineer, a chemist, computer scientist (MBA), and a biomedical engineer/materials scientist (MBA).

The students had a wonderful time engaging with the panelists and implementing the recommended networking strategies during 1 on 1 interactions. Thank you to our panelists, Dr. Ron Hunter, Suna Lumeh, and Brian Benn for your time and words of wisdom. These moments will provide the foundation for professional success for our men of Morehouse!

The 2023 DMR COV is charged to address and prepare a report on the integrity and efficacy of the programs’ processes and management as well as the quality and significance of the results of the Division’s programmatic investments.

Congratulations to our very own, Dr. Lance S. Young for receiving the Vulcan Excellence in Teaching Award! This honor is well deserved for an outstanding educator. 🏆💐👏🏾

On Tuesday, the department of chemistry celebrated our graduating seniors with a lab coat ceremony (lead by Dr. Lance Young) and two guest speakers at our senior luncheon.

We experienced great wisdom and perspectives from our two speakers. Distinguished Research and Emeritus Professor Dr. William M. Jackson ‘56 (University of California Davis) and Andy Dorfeuille ‘20 (graduate student at MIT) took deep dives explaining how to navigate thru chemistry from undergrad to graduate school and early career.

It was a true culturally relevant mentoring experience for everyone in the room ranging from faculty, staff, teaching assistants, and undergraduates.

Thank you, Dr. Jackson for spending time with us! It is a moment that we will cherish forever. Thank you, Andy for connecting with these future Morehouse Men and sharing insight on navigating the graduate school experience.
