There hasn't been a lot of fanfare or talk about it, but today is the day. Today is Manuel's Tavern's Birthday.

Historically, we have celebrated with an entire week of meal specials. This year, we will run meal specials starting on Thursday and going through Sunday night. It's amazing for me to sit here and think that my father started this journey on this day in 1956. We can only imagine what was going through his mind. He had already faced several tragic business failures. He used to tell me stories about the loans he had to take out against his car to get this business going, his fears about making it work, and his determination to provide for his family, his wife, and his children.

It has been an absolutely amazing ride.

In the last months of Dad's life, he made it clear how important it was to him to keep Manuel’s going. How much I wished he was here during the downturn of 2008 and again during the COVID year of fear. I really could have used his tenacity and guidance through both of those high hurdles. There were times I could feel his presence, as well as the presence of my uncle Robert, my grandfather, and my mother. The overarching feeling was that no matter what was happening, we could get through it.

Towards the end of the COVID crisis, when the checkbook was at its lowest point and making payroll seemed impossible, you, our loyal customers, stepped up in a big way with the GoFundMe campaign that was started. I have never been more humbled in my life. I'll never be able to adequately repay the blessings you bestowed on this business. My gratitude is overflowing to all of you. You have kept my father's dream alive.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you for supporting us for all these years. Thank you for allowing us to celebrate another birthday. Thank you for being a part of our family and a part of our lives.

Starting on Thursday we will have a double cheeseburger special with fries or two hot dogs with fries special. The double cheeseburger and the hot dogs have been the historical go-to meal that has sustained this business.

Thank you once again for all your support, encouragement, and generous donations.

It's that time again, folks! The first Presidential debate is tonight, Thursday, June 27th at 9pm. We will have it on the TVs with sound on and a good crowd, so we hope to see you! The kitchen will also stay open throughout the debate. First come, first served, so if you want a seat come early!
