VOX Teen Communications

We encourage interested teens in the Metro Atlanta area to apply for the Atlanta Youth Voices Journalism Fellowship this Fall! This fellowship is perfect for aspiring journalists who want to make a difference and enhance their skills as a writer, reporter, and content creator. The 12-week program will cover article writing, photography, podcasting, videography, editing, and graphic design. Each participant will be required to complete three projects and receive a $500 stipend at the end of the program.

Artemus Jenkins is an Atlanta-based “ethnographer” who uses film and photography to document and comment on everyday life. He has worked with a range of public figures including Ludacris and Michelle Obama.

This past Friday we visited for the second session of our on going podcasting workshop series. This time we explored the difference between Solid vs Sketchy sources as well as Primary and Secondary sources. We also got started on creating some VOX 5 articles. Looking forward to publishing what they created.

Our second in-person workshop of the semester was 🔥🔥🔥. This time we had a Photography 101 workshop planned and led by our media interns that was followed by a VOX ATL picture day where teens got their professional headshots taken. The day featured a Q&A and presentation with photographer/video director who shared stories and advice from his career that has included shooting for Billboard, Rolling Stone and capturing moments with the likes of Lil Baby, Gunna, City Girls, Cardi B and more! After that teens got to get hands on experience taking photos. Shoutout to all of the teens who said “this is my first time using a REAL camera!” Thank you to everyone who came and made this workshop a success.

We did all the things today! Strategic planning, community-building, poetry anthology meet-up, video production workshop & more that couldn’t be captured! We oriented volunteers, facilitated sel-expression activities in the community, and had burrito bowls for lunch! 🌯🥙

What a way to close out our 2023 year of programming! Our Winter Showcase brought together the members of our Leadership Accelerator and our Journalism Fellowship as teens spotlighted their journalism produced this year and hosted a town hall on the important topic of Critical Race Theory. Thanks to all the VOX supporters, parents and VOXers past and present who gathered together today to celebrate amplifying youth voice as only VOX ATL has done for 30 years. Have a restful break. Another busy Saturday at VOX ATL as our Journalism Fellows started recording their podcasts on teen drug use, fast fashion and hip-hop PLUS our One Music Festival coverage team scored their media credentials!
