Puppet People: Founders And Their Fields
Contemporary USA puppeteers stand on the shoulders of giants who via performance, exhibition, or educational work helped American puppetry grow. They have carried word of American puppetry around the globe, used puppetry to advance curriculum, and one of these artists even coined our name - “puppeteer." These artists' stories have been researched for recent Puppetry International, Puppetry International Research or World Encyclopedia of Puppetry Arts (WEPA) materials. We hope this Zoom will inspire listeners to think who still needs to be “written up” and join with us in creating more puppeteer biographies for WEPA and other venues!
Moderator: Kathy Foley
Digital Director: Sara Burmenko
The event is free but advance registration is required.

Opening this week! Bill’s 44th, A Dream Music Puppetry Co-Presentation, runs from July 10 - 28th. Bill’s 44th is a full-length wordless puppet show for grown-ups created by Dorothy James & Andy Manjuck. The streamers are hung, the punch has been poured, and the cake is just begging to be eaten! Our anxious host Bill has planned his party to the last detail—now all that remains is for his guests to arrive. Desperate to fill his apartment with camaraderie and celebration, Bill’s imagination runs wild. Many styles of puppetry, raucous balloons, and a cheeky piece of crudité all collide to examine the pitfalls of impatience, the wonder of loneliness, and the universal passage of time.
Additionally, Bill’s 44th is also a NY Times Critics Pick and has a Citation of Excellence from UNIMA-USA. Don’t miss out! 🥳
