This May, as part of the Corporate Volunteer Council of Atlanta's (CVC) recognition of Mental Health Awareness Month, our program committee organized a special event titled "Don't Let Your Heart Tip." This program was co-designed and sponsored by longtime CVC member and partner, Kaiser Permanente.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) work often requires problem solving around complex social challenges, long hours, deep investment of emotional energy, and limited resources. With this in mind, the purpose of this program was simple yet profound: To remind CSR professionals of the importance of nurturing their own hearts and minds, even as they dedicate themselves to uplifting others.
The event featured a diverse lineup of speakers including:
🌸 Mindfulness session with Brianna Goebel, reminding us to pause, consider how our bodies are feeling, and BREATHE
👥 Mary M. Pike, Psy.D. facilitated peer-to-peer conversations among colleagues to help us connect and validate feelings in a supportive community
🥒 Cooking demonstration with Chef Asata Reid, where she discussed the vital importance of nutritious food on mental and physical health. Thai Cucumber Salad, anyone?
This was a fabulous educational "mind spa" for our members, and we couldn't be more grateful to our thought partners at Kaiser Permanente for sharing their expertise. Thank you Jessica Johnson, BSN-RN, AIA, Brandon J Gardner, Tricia Croone and team for your generosity and hospitality! And thanks as always to our CVC Program Committee and co-chairs, Kelly Harper Lee and A. Neill, and President, Toccara Arnold Alam.
