Big news! ๐ฃ The City of Ridgecrest and the City of Shafter have joined the fight against hunger by proclaiming September as Hunger Action Month! ๐ We're proud to have food access points in both cities, providing a consistent food source for our food insecure neighbors ๐ฝ๏ธ A huge thank you to both cities for their unwavering partnership and commitment to meeting people at their point of need.
Today, on Hunger Action Day, we're thrilled to share that the Kern County Board of Supervisors has officially declared September as Hunger Action Month! ๐ This month is dedicated to fighting hunger and supporting our food-insecure neighbors. We're incredibly grateful for this partnership that empowers us to make a difference. Together, we can combat hunger and create a better tomorrow.

This month, we at CAPK are channeling our energy towards combating food insecurity in our county. In 2023, our Food Bank nourished over 100,000 of our neighbors, and sadly, in 2024, that number has doubled to over 200,000. ๐๐โ๏ธ Our Back 2 School Drive was a resounding success! Hosted by our Friendship House Community Center Bakersfield, we kicked off the new school year in style. We gave away FREE backpacks filled with school essentials, offered FREE haircuts to help the little ones look their best, and distributed food boxes from our Food Bank to ensure no family went hungry. We started the school year right, feeling good and ready to learn! Thank you for joining us and making this school year start off on a high note! We will see you again next year!
This past weekend, our CalFresh Healthy Living program had the pleasure of celebrating National Farmers Market Week in style! ๐๐ฅฆ We teamed up with the fantastic F St Farmers Market to transform the day into a vibrant resource fair. Local services came out in full force to connect with our wonderful community and support our local vendors. It was a day filled with fresh produce, friendly faces, and a shared love for all things local. ๐ฝ๐ Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating this event promoting access to healthy lifestyles.
We are thrilled to look back on our first-ever Gourmet for Good event hosted through the CAPK Foundation, a night that was nothing short of a resounding success. It was a lively and memorable occasion, filled with the warmth and generosity of our incredible sponsors and community members. We are excited to share a highlight video that beautifully encapsulates the spirit of our mission.
