Meet the Presenter of today's Leadershop:
Zoonash Syed (She/Her/Hers) is a Senior Pre-Law Public Health major on the Administration track at UMBC. Outside of UMBC, she enjoys watching shows as well as listening to music. Zoonash believes that leadership is about setting a responsible example for her peers as well as encouraging those around her to speak their minds. Her goals as a Leadership Peer Facilitator is to promote the multiple perspectives of what leadership can entail. Aside from being a Leadership Peer Facilitator, Zoonash takes part in SGA as a Senator, and is doing research work that will be presented at URCAD.

About the Leadershop:
"Watch That Show!"
Stressed? Self-care is necessary in preventing burn-out. Therefore, watching that show IS productive. Join us as we resist hustle-culture in order to show up as our best selves!

Leadership:
Zoonash believes that leadership is being able to be both proactive as well as sometimes taking the back seat in order to guide individuals. It is also about acknowledging that leadership can come in many different styles, and doesn’t necessarily always mean the loudest person in the room.

Ice-Breaker: If you had to eat one thing for the rest of your life what would it be?
I would eat pomegranates because they’ve been my favorite fruit since I was a kid (and because they’re the best).

Happy Woolie Wednesday! Woolie Wednesday is a Campus Life Series where you hear directly from the Woolie team what they love about being a Woolie. What’s a Woolie? Woolies are what we lovingly call Welcome Week Leaders at UMBC. Woolies help new students as they transition into being a student at UMBC. Welcome Week, which happens at the beginning at each of the Fall and Spring semesters, is a series of events to welcome students to UMBC.

This week featuring our beloved Woolie, Lauren!

Lauren shared:
""I loved being a woolie because of the leadership experience! I didn’t expect to have as much fun as I did but I’m coming back for a third year in a row and I can’t wait to meet hundreds of new people :)"

Unveil your academic prowess at URCAD 2024. 🎓 Share your findings, spark discussions, and make your mark on the scholarly landscape at UMBC!

Undergraduate Research and Creative Achievement Day (URCAD), happening on April 10, 2024, features research, scholarship, and creative work carried out by UMBC undergraduates. Student work is shared through oral presentations, posters, artistic exhibits, performances, and film.

All current undergraduates who have conducted research, scholarship or creative work in the last year may apply to present their results at URCAD. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2024. Mentors, fellow students, friends, family members, high school teachers and students, graduate school recruiters, and the general public are invited to attend.

Over 300 presenters participate annually. Researchers work with faculty mentors on independent research, or research that is part of the mentor’s on-going projects. They are from all disciplines, and can be working on a thesis, capstone project, part of a scholars or honors program, or they can be unaffiliated. This campus-wide celebration of achievement affirms UMBC’s commitment to the twin goals of research and a distinctive undergraduate experience.
