Are you interested in combining clinical science and artistic talent in a direct patient care activity? Consider a career in Clinical Anaplastology!
Clinical Anaplastologists (Ana ā¢ plast ā¢ ologists) offer treatment options to patients for whom surgical reconstruction alone cannot restore missing anatomy. Using medical art knowledge and skills, Clinical Anaplastologists create custom-made facial, ocular, and non-weight bearing somatic (body) prostheses as well as custom medical devices, 3D patient-matched models, surgical template/guides and other 3D printed clinical models.
Facial: ear, nose, orbit (area surrounding the eye), and other regions of the face
Ocular: the eye (artificial eye and scleral shell fit over a non-seeing eye)
Non-weight bearing somatic: finger, partial hand, toe, partial foot, breast, and other soft tissues of body
Other custom medical devices: implants, tracheostoma covers, surgical templates/guides/stents
Direct clinical care is provided in collaboration with physicians and patients. Activities include treatment planning, impression taking, sculpting, mold making, casting, colorizing, surface painting and fitting wearable prosthetic devices made from flexible silicone or rigid plastic. Surgical Illustration Presentation ā December 17, 2021 This event is an opportunity for our faculty and guests to review our second year graduate student's surgical illustrations. Twelve illustrations will be formally critiqued.
Job Announcement - Clinical Anaplastologist
The Department of Art as Applied to Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine seeks an academic Clinical Anaplastologist for appointment as Instructor or Assistant Professor.
Candidates must be board certified in Clinical Anaplastology, Ocularistry, or related certification with a minimum of two-years of clinical experience in the design, production and fitting of facial, ocular and non-weight-bearing somatic prosthetic medical devices and custom surgical guides. Additional training and experience in advanced 3D technologies (scanning, design, printing) is desirable.

Candidates will collaborate in patient care with faculty members in the Departments of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Ophthalmology.
