Every year, over 200 of our AmeriCorps members tutor and mentor students, build community parks and gardens, help homeowners conserve energy, recruit volunteers, grow food for low-income residents, rehabilitate abandoned houses, involve parents in Baltimore City schools, and make homes safer for older adults. Happy New Year from all of us at Civic Works! Thank you all for 30 incredible years! 🌱 Here’s to 2024 and 30 more! 👏
We’re concluding our weekly throwbacks with a collage of our AmeriCorps flashbacks this Friday! 👏
In our three decades of operation, our dedicated AmeriCorps members consistently made a positive impact in Baltimore. Their transformative experiences with us guided them toward successful careers while contributing to the growth of our communities. With AmeriCorps’ support, Civic Works continues to nurture education, community service, and skills development in Baltimore.
With the help of our AmeriCorps, our volunteers, and the community, we continue to deliver produce boxes to families, plant trees in vacant lots, install grab bars for the safety of older adults at home, conduct case management sessions for job trainees, and install energy-saving LED bulbs in Baltimore homes.
A heartfelt thank you for 30 incredible years, and an amazing 30th anniversary to AmeriCorps! Stay connected with AmeriCorps to explore more about their impact and join us in celebrating their 30th anniversary through September 2024!
Shout out to our Clean Corps crew! Amazing job Damo! 🙌
This week's Clean Corps focus is on our crew at Coldstream-Homestead-Montebello (CHM). Each of our 62 Clean Corps crew members who work five days a week to help clean the City of Baltimore are also contributing to the City of Baltimore on their off hours.
Damo helps his crew clean and mow vacant lots, clean alleys, and clean public trashcans each working day. The CHM Clean Corps team is also helping DPW address work orders from 311s in the CHM neighborhood.
Thanks, Damo for all of your hard work!

Happy Holidays from all of us at Civic Works! Today, let’s give a round of applause to Darius, who is our 2023 Ed Miller Corpsmember of the Year! 👏
Darius joined our YouthBuild program this year to achieve his own goals and now he inspires others. In a short time, Darius earned every certification we offer. He earned his GED, passing each of the four sections on the first attempt. He earned certifications in carpentry, workplace safety, forklift operations, flagging and CPR. He completed drivers education and has a learner’s permit.
Darius became a leader. He helps trainees stay motivated and encourages them to keep trying. His peers say that he’s reliable and a good listener. That seeing him achieve his goals helps them stay on track.
Darius said that this year he learned how to change. And that he’s still changing.

For today’s throwback, we’re highlighting a recent moment. Check out the holiday tree our energy efficiency crew crafted in 2017, composed of energy saving pledges signed by students from local Baltimore schools! 🎄💡✨
During that period, Civic Works Energy Programs operated as the Baltimore Energy Challenge, sharing the same mission to raise awareness about the sustainable benefits of energy conservation and educate our community on day-to-day energy saving practices at home.
What are some ways that you currently save energy at home? Let us know in the comments!
We’re continuing to share the stories of our AmeriCorps members whom we honored at last week’s Clifton Mansion Tower Lighting celebration! Today, give a round of applause to Trudy! 👏
Trudy spent her second year with Real Food Farm as a Team Lead for food distribution. She led our Govans Farmer’s Market stand, making it a more welcoming and inclusive space. She worked hard to make sure people had food to eat, delivering more than 900 produce boxes to older adults and 500 CSA shares. Trudy discovered a love of farming and has been accepted into Future Harvest’s Beginner Farmer Training Program. 🙌
