Good Afternoon! As you begin to make fall plans, we have another wonderful concert together to start our 37th season on Sunday, October 27th at 4:00 with our soloists, orchestra, and Bach in Baltimore Chorus.
Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D major, BWV 1069 is a vibrant and majestic work featuring a rich array of dance movements. Its grand opening “Ouverture” and lively “Rejouissance” highlight Bach’s masterful orchestration, showcasing festive and intricate Baroque textures.
We continue with Albinoni’s Oboe Concerto in D minor, Op. 9, No. 2. This concerto, with its lush orchestration and virtuosic oboe lines, exhibits Albinoni’s mastery in balancing expressive solo passages with rich orchestral textures. We end this concert with a Bach Cantata; Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott; a cornerstone of Baroque sacred music.
Please join us after the concert for our Oktoberfest celebration, with our wonderful hosts, the Maryland State Boychoir! Details to follow soon.

Please mark your calendars for our 2024-2025 Season Opener on Sunday, October 6th at 4:00PM!
We open our season in grand style with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, known as the “Eroica.” This piece represents a turning point in the composer’s career and in the history of classical music- a shift from the Classical to Romantic style. The piece is followed by Guilmant’s Symphony No. 1 or Organ Sonata No. 1. It is a notable example of the French Romantic organ tradition, blending orchestral textures with virtuosic organ passages. Kids can come for free! We're looking forward to welcoming you to another wonderful season with Bach in Baltimore.

Please welcome our final soloist for today's concert at 4:00PM at The Maryland State Boychoir Center for the Arts (3400 Norman Avenue) with performances of Bach's Cantata 31: Der Himmel lacht! Die Erde jubileret & Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 4 in D Major.
John Solomon Collins, singing the bass solo in today's Cantata 31, was born in Washington, D.C. and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. Growing up, he was always surrounded by music, hearing his mother sing with the church praise team and participating in the children’s choir. He became resistant towards singing in middle and early high school, but as time went on, his love for singing and passion for creating art became clearer to him; so he decided to pursue a career in vocal performance. After winning first place in the Coalition of African Americans in the Performing Arts’s Scholarship Competition in 2020, he began studying vocal performance under Kevin Short at the University of Maryland. While there, John Solomon performed as Sylvester in OperaTerps’ production of Three Sisters Who Are Not Sisters, sang in the chorus of the Maryland Opera Studio’s production of La Bohème, and was awarded second place at the Sue Guetz Ross Memorial Competition presented by the Friday Morning Music Club. He was also accepted into the Honors Performance Series, which took place last summer at the Sydney Opera House in Sydney, Australia. John Solomon is looking forward to joining the Class of 2026’s cohort of the Maryland Opera Studio, continuing his education at the University of Maryland.
